Subject: PZL.23 Karas
Manufacturer: Armaments in Miniature link
Scale: 1/100 (compatible with 15mm)
Medium: Resin
Price: $15 USD

This is not a new kit but I recently got around to finishing this batch (finished something half complete instead of starting a new project). I still have a flight of Polish PZL.23s that I need to complete. The kits consist of a one piece fuselage/wing/tail assembly and numerous resin detail parts (landing gears, antenna, tail skid, gunner, MGs, gun sight, pitot tube, and lots of bombs). The kits required minimal clean up and went together well. I finished the pictured models with Vallejo Model Color, P3, Andrea, and Citadel paints. The decals are from Wargames and I picked them up from Armaments in Miniature as well link . Now I need to make some time to finish some Romanian Hurricanes, 109s, and Stukas to keep these company.

Recommendation: Highly recommended.

You are definitely AIM's best spokesperson!

Any chance of doing some of their interesting ground stuff that we never get to see, like the Studebaker-based Katyusha? But now I see that there's no point in ordering right now…

Kevin,
I just ordered one of those earlier this week for my Romanian force. VERY nice work! Which decal sets did you use for the aircraft?

Allen, I'll see if I can pick one up from Dave (AIM) when I make my day-trip to Historicon. Once I have it on hand it's just a matter of concentrating long enough to start & finish it. I've worked on some Reviresco tank kits recently and still have several kits to finish but a Katyusha might be a nice change of pace.

Brian, I didn't see the decals on the AIM website but I was able to find the remnants of the decal sheet in my waste bin. The code on the decal sheet was "D15-1404-1 B Pzl 23 Kara". I can ask Dave if he's got any more in stock. If not I'll check to see if one of the two guys that makes the decals is around the vendor area at Historicon (Don – usually found around The Goblin Factory). You might also try wargames.rpgshelf.net . You may have to send an e-mail query as the code didn't jump out at me there either.

Lovely; thanks. Also please wish him the best for his lady; that must be taking a toll on morale, and it's perfectly natural to adjust the schedule to work around treatments.

WOW!!

Once again, Kevin, you do not fail to fascinate and impress us with your talent on those aircraft! I have always had an affinity for the Polish forces on the eve of World War II, and just recently purchased a few of QRF's PZL P.11c fighters, which fought alongside the Karas dive bombers. A couple of questions, please: 1), is the machine gun and gunner figure one piece? And 2), the upper paint scheme, is that Polish khaki?

Sure would be nice to see some 1/100 scale Polish squadron decals since there are two similarly-scaled Polish aircraft kits available. It's the "Golden Age" of the representation of the history of the Polish military.

Hi Larry, the gunner and the MG in the rear cockpit are two pieces and the upper color I was going for was the standard green color of Polish AC. I don't know if it's my eyes, the lighting I'm using, or what but sometimes the reference pictures I'm using look green and other times they look more brown than green. I used Vallejo Model Color 093 Brown Violet which looks like a drab green to me. Kevin

Kevin,
Sorry for the late reply, but I looked on AIM's website and the decals for a Polish PZL23 are there. If there is a Romanian set I did not see them. No need to bother him with it; my order shipped yesterday and I explained what I needed from him. If I want the writing on the tailfin I can pick up those decals later.

Great paint job. Sure wish AIM worked in 1/144 also.

tuscaloosa, did you know that True North Miniatures has a range of 1/144 scale aircraft?

tuscaloosa11 Jul 2009 11:53 p.m. PST

Yeah, I wish I'd bought a couple of IAR-80's before they went under. They had some unique items no one else carried.

tuscaloosa, check out this thread TMP link it might not be as bad as it sounds. Kevin

Thanks; I remain eagerly optimistic (but wary of having my heart crushed yet again by premature promises).

Those early war planes that were sold to many minor neutrals are pretty neat. I hope they do a He-112 also, the Rumanians flew those as well. (Had an FE-Resin version but lost some pieces).

tuscaloosa, I saw the True North mini line of 1/144 scale airplane minis at th Old Glory booth at Historicon today…they sold out of Vindicators before I arrived.

orcafinn20 Nov 2009 9:52 p.m. PST

I ordered some True North 1/144 planes earlier this week, from the Old Glory 25's website.
