What companies out there make heads, and if you don't make heads, why not? I am always looking for cool heads for conversion, and have been finding the field lacking. If I were to sculpt them (not possible, as they'd be a ball of greenstuff with some pin holes), I'd use a rounded base so they can fit onto popular multi-part plastic figures from a variety of games. Here are some ideas to stir the pot: Orc Goblin Elf Constrictor Snake Cobra Fish Angler Fish Shark Hammerhead Shark (Please oh please, please, please, please) Feline Canine Bugs (Of all sorts) Crabby Bird Frog Use your imagination, I'd just love to have some great heads for converting my figures with. I also had posted the idea on Wargames Factory on the forum, to see if there was much interest, but apparently someone else suggested something similar and they felt it unlikely to succeed. I beg to differ. So where do you get your heads from? |

It does seem odd that there is not more being done to offer interesting heads. It seems that with the way minis prices are going these days somebody would see that it's just not economically viable for modellers to go out and buy a whole other figure just for the head. Now, granted, there is a lot to be said for doing some conversions and all that but not everyone has those skills (myself included). Good luck with this. -Eli |

I love spare heads for conversions. I play a lot of D&D and Mordheim (a fantasy skirmish game) and I want people to look _different_. I have a sizable collection of plastic GW Empire figures – particularly the militia guys – for fantasy and I am building up a good-sized force of SciFi Imperial guard types. In both cases, I would love a greater variety of hears. There are some alternative SciFi heads for the Guard
but they are usually gasmask heads, and I am not a particular fan of the gasmask look. The ease of conversions is one of the reason I really like plastic figures, by the way. When Wargames Factory created their Liberty and Union league, one of the three suggestions I immediately submitted was "Separate Heads – Medieval, Renaissance, Pirates, Fantasy". Months later, they have barely made 5% of the necessary 1000 orders. So those of us who are spare-head fans may not be that numerous. But if you can use extra Medieval, Reaissance, etc. heads, here's the link: link |

My only thought with that post is that youa re getting humanoid heads, shich I would guess are less desirably than something that can be used to make aliens, and new fantasy races. I want Hammerheads as I think they'd look phenomenal on Tau bodies. However, I have no skill to make them myself. I figures if they could cram maybe 10 different head types (in varying quantities) they'd have a great seller, then people could trade what they need. |

The only problem I see is matching a head with the wide variety of figure scales out there. What might fit B's minis would be too small or too large to fit A's or C's minis
. |

That is true, but I think a non-standard head shouldn't have nearly as many problems. Let's say my Hammerheads get made. And they fit nicely on Tau Torso's. They'll also fit many other companies figures, such as Wargames Factory, Reaper, Void, Warzone, but not perhaps Star Wars figures as they are so small. But perhaps some will be alright. Human (or humanoid heads) are going to be a lot more scale fiddly then say a bird head stuck on some guys body. |

There are a lot of spare heads out there in plastic thanks to GW and, increasingly, Wargames Factory. |

I know, but I am more interested in things that aren't currently done a lot of, like Fish, Birds, Dogs, Cats, Hammerhead sharks, etc. Did I mention I would like some Hammerhead Shark Heads? |

Have you considered buying inexpensive children toy animals and clipping their heads off? You can buy a lot of common animals in "tube o' animal" style toy sets. And yes, they have hammerhead sharks :) -Eli |

I don't think they'd work very well, nor would they be a good size, and yeah, I have thought of that previously. |

You know, I think that there might be some people that would like to have a sprue that includes something like a hammerhead shark's head. Don't know why that thought keeps popping into my head, though. Personally, I'd like to see a wider variety of plastic human heads available. I'd just go ahead and scale them to 40k/whfb, for simplicity's sake |

Some companies that do separate heads: Hasslefree Maxmini West Wind Micro Art Studios Tin's bits Pig Iron Redoubt Amazon miniatures |
| Cacique Caribe | 04 Aug 2009 8:04 p.m. PST |

Don't know about amazon or redoubt, but the others will work with GW plastics size-wise. Hasslefree human heads might be a bit smallish, but they also have a few alien heads. |

Just rememberd Anglian Miniatures (now Empress Miniatures), Bolt Action (now Warlord Games) and Brigade Games also have SCW and WW2 heads in 28mm |
| Glenn M | 05 Aug 2009 3:11 a.m. PST |
CC, 28mm, compatible with GW and other common plastics would be good. |

I agree with everyone here about the need for more heads. What I'd really like to see are more separate female heads. There aren't many options for those either. 3D Miniatures Design Group has some separate heads (aliens, zombies, mutants, etc.) here: link No shark heads, but it's a start. Another company that springs to mind is Mississinewa Miniatures ( link ), simply because MM has been producing many small items lately (barrels, weapons, chainsaws, etc.). If you can generate enough interest, Glenn, maybe you can convince one of these smaller companies to make the heads you're looking for. |

personally, I'm really wishing for some Ape heads so i can make my "Planet of the Apes" romans to fight my celts with war mammoths. |
| Glenn M | 13 Aug 2009 3:19 a.m. PST |
Darwin, while it goes against the spirit of me thread. Try Black Orc Games, they happen to have Ape Romans. |
| Darwin Green | 13 Aug 2009 12:15 p.m. PST |
True, Glenn. That's what gave me the idea. but, i figured using the warlord games romans and give them monkey heads would be cooler. I would still intend to pick up the gorillas, but use them in a similar role as ogres and what not. i was humoring doing that myself, my my sculpting skills are a bit lacking, and I really don't know much about mold making and casting. |
| Glenn M | 14 Aug 2009 6:25 a.m. PST |
So what we are saying is, someone needs to be making some Ape heads as well, I can handle that. Do you hear me sculptors, sculpt and sell some cool animal heads!!!! |

Anyone make large-ish 28mm heads to put on Kroot, for District 9 look-alikes? link TMP link Thanks. Dan |

Conversion heads is a good idea. The main issue I would guess is the process of getting idea to actual production head and making it cost feasible. The business questions would be how many types to make, how many would sell, and how much to charge?
