Hey guys, just wondering what the average base size of a 15mm figure is. Let's just say I want to work on a top secret project while I'm waiting for money to buy a bunch of 15mm Marines, Space Demons, and Garn! |

Just like any other scale, they range from too little base to stand upright to too much base to justify. I'd go round or broad oval, no more than 70% of height at widest point. |

I use 15x15mm for foot and 15x30mm for mounted |

Edit: Ninja'd @Farstar So, on average about 10.5mm? What about, say, doing Sci-fi corridors for 15mm figures >:D. About 15-20mm square? |

For a human figure, yes. Keep in mind that real corridors are too narrow to represent properly with static metal miniatures in action poses. Go wide (floors), or go short (walls). |

I mount mine on pennies that are about half an inch wide. |

I'm using steel, 12mm washers, so they can be stored/carried/used with magnetic bases. They can be removed for individual skirmish play, or mounted on small magnetic sheet bases, for squad/fireteam level games, if needed. |
| 15mm Gnome | 29 Jun 2009 6:06 p.m. PST |
I mount them on 20mm round base. For non-combatant, such as civilians, 15mm round base |

I mount mine on small plastic bingo chips roughly the same diameter as pennies. They're only slightly more expensive in bulk, but extra bingo chips in various colors double as status tokens in games. |

Mounting 15s individually is a daunting concept. I like 'em en masse. |

I use pennies mostly for individual based figures |

I mount mine individually on 5p pieces, with two-man weapon teams on 2p pieces. Expensive, but just the right size! |

For humans / human sized bodies I use Litko magnetic bases – round 15mm in size $12.49 USD for 100 These are strong enough to hold the figure upside down on steel sheeting in a filing box for storage. Andrew blog.kings-sleep.me.uk |

Most of mine are 2 or 3 on a 30mm x 30mm base. Individuals go on pennies. Ths is true for my stuff for the Sudan, WW1, SCW, WW2 and postwar as well. Star Wars are based individually. |

Individually, british pennies are 20mm. It's a little big, but gives some space to add stuff to the base, or handle the occasional larger mini or prone figure. They are also cheap, being pennies, and have smooth edges, unlike the more expensive 5p coins. |

ACW -- 1" square for infantry and cav -- 1.5"x1" for artillery. WWII -- FOW bases but troops are mounted individually on 5/8" washers and affixed to base using rare earth magnets. mjc |

I'm very new to 15mm. However, on the recommendation of a friend of mine, I went to our local hardware store (Home Depot) and got flat zinc fender washers that work very well when I store the figures in boxes lined with magnet. I'm trying to recall the exact size (I bought them in bulk a while back – a few plastic blister packages with 100 each), but this might give some idea how big they are: link link I'll see if I still have one of the packages back with my kit at the hotel. If I do, I'll add it to the discussion. CC |

I'm using 3/4" fender washers. That's the same size as a US penny. At my local Ace Hardare a box of 100 was $6.50 USD or so. For any game that might require multiple basing, I'm hoping to find FOW sized movement trays with spaces for that size base. I'm sure Litko could make them. |

Coolio, thanks guys!!! I'm going to get to work on that project right now! |

I also use pennies for individually-based models, but I use Flames of War bases for teams (small bases for 2-man teams, medium bases for 3-4 man, large bases for big guns). Pennies are 3/4" in diameter, so any catwalks or tunnels need to be pretty wide for gameplay purposes, like 20mm wide or so. 20mm wide catwalks/tunnels are roughly 6'6" wide if we keep the 1/100 scale of most modern 15mm-to-the-eyes figures (18mm boots to head, when standing upright) |

Earlier post: TMP link I use 1/4"; I put one figure per base so this seems to work well

Update: The ones I use are 5/8" in outer diameter. They are labeled as 1/4" washers, but that is just the diameter of the hole. Mine are from Home Depot. They are in the hardware isle with all the huts, bolts and washers. The packaging is orange in color. They are called "SAE Washers", zinc. Manufacturer is Crown Bolt LLC. I buy the 100 washer packages. Great for sitting figures on magnet liners. CC |

A clarification. I was answering with regards to cast-on bases. Attached game-dependent basing would be a different answer. |

I use old wargame counters or sheet styrene. Both have held up for decades. |
