After reading the posts on the 7-11 straws…

TMP link

I decided to pick up a few and base them for gaming. Here is what I have finally pulled together. The Terminator T-700s in front are from Copplestone. The Harvesters and Mototerminators are from 7-11, and the T-1 Tank and Hunter Killer are from Toys-R-Us. The flight stand is scratch built. Cheers.

Wow. I mean . . . Wow!

That's pretty cool. Nice work.

Pictors Studio21 Jun 2009 5:53 p.m. PST

That is pretty cool. That will be a fun army to play with.

I was thinking about doing an army of each side for FWC or CWC or perhaps using the Cold War American list from CWC and a cyborg list from FWC. Ideally in 6mm.

Captain Apathy21 Jun 2009 6:09 p.m. PST

Thanks guys. The best part is the only things I had to paint were the Copplestone Terminator Robots and the bases. Everything else is as I purchased it.

I figured I could use my modern 28mm minis and helicopters for the early stages of the resistance (pre-plasma weapons).

CPBelt21 Jun 2009 6:26 p.m. PST

That looks like a real Terminator force. I like! Does the giant "John Conner as a kid" figure come with the set, or did you have to pay extra for him?

Captain Apathy21 Jun 2009 6:32 p.m. PST

LOL… the "giant" is there for scale, and I pay pleanty for him every day. The kid eats everything but my minis. He is going to eat me out of house and home. ; )

Covert Walrus21 Jun 2009 6:55 p.m. PST

Nice . . . Captain, you realise that you could use the mech and the bikes as Command And Conquer 3 Nod style forces, namely the Avatar and the strike cycles?

Goldwyrm21 Jun 2009 8:34 p.m. PST

Very Cool. I haven't seen the new movie yet..maybe this week or next, but now I realize I desperately need to get to a 7-11 for some toys… I hope I didn't miss out already.

btw- Someone on another forum wanted to know how the H-K scaled out, so here are some photos of my force (minus a few squads I didn't put out for the pictures)

Tanks are Hollywood Collectibles, the wannabe Terminators are Rifts Skelebots.

Inverse21 Jun 2009 10:43 p.m. PST

Cool, very cool. And wasn't nice of the Sev., putting 'stands/bases' in with those figures…it's like they knew.:D

Right now, I'm eyeballing getting 'Transformer' straw from them: Megatron and 'The Fallen'. I think they'd look great next to stuff like 'The Harvesters' and 'The Mototerminators'…:)

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Jun 2009 11:11 p.m. PST

Very nice. I'm doing pretty much the same thing. However, I don't have any 7-11's anywhere near by. Any place else to get some?

Thanks,

John

I was excpecting to see pictures of GW figures with tambourines and selling The War Cry…..

Great pictures… nice looking terminator force

That's what I imagined as well, power armoured bands & choirs singing "Come and Join Us".

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2009 5:37 a.m. PST

Someone (with a lot of time on their hands) should do it – can you imagine the looks when they take it into a GW store for a tournament ?

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2009 5:57 a.m. PST

Great idea and great looking army

Oh – my Captain – speaking as the father of 4, three of whom have gone thru their teen years, if you think he eats a lot now, you ain't seen nothin' yet

slobberblood22 Jun 2009 6:14 a.m. PST

it's funny, I'm working on the same thing!

Warlord22 Jun 2009 7:08 a.m. PST

The toys from 7-11, were they some kind of special? what were their price?

I have never seen those before.

Captain Apathy22 Jun 2009 11:55 a.m. PST

Warlord – The 7-11 toys were attached to Slurpee straws (pic below) and were sold for $1.69 USD (+ tax) each. I found mine during a road trip through Virginia. I don't know if they are still available, but I will keep my eye out for them should anyone else want them.

picture

The good news is they pop right off the straw and come with a plastic base. However, I used GW bases for mine because I didn't like the "Terminator: Salvation" in raised letters all over the bases from 7-11.

M1Fanboy22 Jun 2009 12:12 p.m. PST

Captain,
I'd love to get a couple of the Harvester bots if you can find them, been to three 7-11s in the DC area and I have yet to see them.

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2009 12:22 p.m. PST
Captain Apathy22 Jun 2009 12:26 p.m. PST

CC – Yup thats them. The auction looks like it has one of each type (harvester, mototerminator, t-600, and terminator head).

M1Fanboy – I will keep an eye out for you. : )

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2009 12:34 p.m. PST

Maybe the 7-11 Public Affairs contact can provide some idea on how to buy the straws separately, or if they still have the campaign at their stores:

Margaret Chabris

Wouldn't hurt to try. The worst she can say is no, right?

Dan

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2009 12:39 p.m. PST

I went ahead and sent Ms. Chabris the following email message:

Dear Ms. Chabris,

A great many in our collectables group are wondering if the Apocalyptic Ice Slurpee (Terminator Salvation) promo campaign is still going on at your 7-11 stores.

If not, is there any way that we could order the straws separately? We are particularly interested in the one with the Terminator motorcycle ("moto-terminators"?).

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Dan Martinez

You are the man Dan.

Thanks,

John

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2009 1:08 p.m. PST

Thanks, John. Let's see if that works though. Fingers crossed.

Dan

Cacique Caribe22 Jun 2009 1:48 p.m. PST

Ok guys. This is what Margaret said in her reply a couple of minutes ago:

"Hi, Dan – Yes, the promotion runs through the end of June, and in July we turn into GI Joe; Rise of Cobra with that movie's own set of cups & straws. Let me know if you can't find any of the moto-terminator straws, and we'll see what we can do for you. I think we have a few straws left. Stores just have enough to get them through this month. Cheers -- mc"

QUESTION
So what do you guys want me to do next? I'm on the road right now, and don't know where I will be lodging from one week to the next.

Dan

Dragon Gunner22 Jun 2009 1:57 p.m. PST

Just a suggestion Captain Apathy. In the Kryomek range there is a cyborg miniature of and undead soldier fused with Kryomek technology. It looks more like the terminator than a zombie. He carries two miniguns and would be a dead ringer for the clunky T-600 that attempts to kill Kyle Reese early in the movie.

Captain Apathy22 Jun 2009 2:05 p.m. PST

Thanks Dragon Gunner. I will keep an eye out for it.

Inverse22 Jun 2009 4:44 p.m. PST

…"G.I. JOE"…8D Think…Think I'm gonna cry…best 'summer-stuff' I've seen in a while…Well, 'cept the Wolverine cups, those STANK…

Oh, please; oh, please, OH, PLEASE let there be H.I.S.S. Tanks at about 1/43 (I know, I KNOW: TOO BIG…)

Goldwyrm22 Jun 2009 7:25 p.m. PST

Stores just have enough to get them through this month.

CC, Thanks for getting that information.

I ran out to the closest 7-11 earlier this evening and scored 2 bikes.

28mmMan22 Jun 2009 8:49 p.m. PST

I have no 7-11 near me…I have sent emails to other 7-11 taps, hopefully they will result in something positive.

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 5:05 a.m. PST

Just sent her the following email . . . and hope to have a reply soon:

Margaret,

I'll take as many of the motor-terminator and the walker straws as you may have. I'm getting lots of emails asking me for a large number of both. If you have 35 of the cycles and 25 of the walkers, you will make a lot of people very, very happy. If you have more of those two, even better.

How would you like to handle the transaction? Do you accept PayPal?

Thanks so much!!!

Dan Martinez

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 5:21 a.m. PST

I've just sent her a follow-up email with this photo:

Margaret's reply:

Dan – Let's hold off on discussing payment and first see what I can scrounge up. All my "Slurpee/cup/straws" guys are on vacation this week, so I should have an answer for you next week. I'll start looking this week, too, and will get back to you next week. Love hearing that there are lots of Terminator character straw/toy fans out there. -- Margaret

PS. Anyone else find it funny that the title to this thread says "Salvation Army"???

Tongster23 Jun 2009 9:32 a.m. PST

Grrrr . . . the local 7-11 never had these straws, and the guys who worked there looked really confused when I tried to describe them.

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 11:35 a.m. PST

Stewbags,

Check your PMs. Then shoot me an email:

daniel DOT martinez1 AT sbcglobal DOT net

Dan

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 12:20 p.m. PST

The rest of you guys, I found a 7-Eleven close by and got 16 straws (7 walkers and 9 bikes), but these I think are spoken for . . . if Stewbags confirms.

However, tonight I'm going to try and make a run to all the 7-Elevens close by and see what I find.

If anyone is interested, shoot me an email at the address above, and I'll let you know if I have more. I'll take any requests based on the order of the emails. It gives me the only single medium to arrange the inquiries in a fair manner.

Don't forget to let me know which TMP handle you use and to put "Terminator Straws" on the email subject line.

Dan

Captain Apathy23 Jun 2009 12:44 p.m. PST

CC – I was able to find some locally as well and I am passing them on to M1Fanboy and John Leahy. I will keep my eyes pealed for more.

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 12:46 p.m. PST

Fantastic!

That's exactly what we should do to help out our brothers and sisters that don't live anywhere near a store.

Let's pull together people.

28mmMan23 Jun 2009 2:39 p.m. PST

Captain Enthusiasm is more like it! Major Emotion…Lt. Helper… sorry couldn't help it :(

Captain Apathy23 Jun 2009 4:12 p.m. PST

I thought about changing my name to Major Bummer, but lets be honest… who cares?

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 5:42 p.m. PST

You do! Let's face it . . . you're a good man with honest emotions. You should go with "Captain Empathy"!

CC

Cacique Caribe23 Jun 2009 8:29 p.m. PST

Ok. I went to 8 stores close by and all were out.

We're going to have to wait a bit for what Margaret can find for us.

CC

28mmMan24 Jun 2009 6:14 a.m. PST

I spoke with Margaret, she has only found 17 so far. The next guy to talk to will not be back til next week. Looks grim.

Cacique Caribe24 Jun 2009 6:24 a.m. PST

:(

CC

Cacique Caribe24 Jun 2009 7:30 a.m. PST

Other than the one where I found the bikes and walkers that go to Stewbags, as well as the skelebots that go to 28mmMan, I have found nothing else.

I went to 8 stores last night. Calling ahead didn't help, as most store clerks had no idea which straws I was talking about (Terminator vs Transformers).

I feel very disappointed now.

CC

Tongster24 Jun 2009 9:43 a.m. PST

Thanks for your efforts, guys – even if you can't find any more, you've gone above and beyond. They may take our minis, but they can never take our freedom!

Cacique Caribe24 Jun 2009 9:48 a.m. PST

Thanks, but I haven't given up yet. Margaret said that next week she would check with someone at their warehouse.

Let's see what happens.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha… you don't know me very well, do you? ; )

Captain Apathy24 Jun 2009 10:21 a.m. PST

Ok, I found a few more, but some of them are spoken for. Drop me a PM if you are interested and I will let you know what I have left. Cheers.
