I am looking into getting into 15mm Civil War and was wondering what people considered to be the best looking 15mm miniatures? Thanks guys.

I like Peter Pig.

Huge range from QRF here of over 100 models.

Another Peter Pig vote – since they re-mastered the ACW range it's been the benchmark for me. Polly Oliver (sculpted by Anthony Barton) were arguably nicer still, but the firm closed years ago and the figures never resurfaced unfortunately.

That said, do take a look here:

Mark's oh-so-useful 15mm comparison site has LOTS of ACW to look at, although it's worth noting the page is a few years old, so some ranges may have been remastered since – Peter Pig certainly has, and improved a lot in the process (ACW was their first ever range, which shows a little for the old sculpts.)

If your are in the US check out Old Glory 15's. You can get Old Glory and Batttle Honors for .34 per figure and that is before 20% to 40% discounts and free shipping! Great figures to!

There is a range of superb 15mm ACW figures sculpted by Tony Barton and available from Eureka Miniatures.

I'll second what nsolomon99 said. AB figures from Eureka are the best out there.

Here is link to their USA website:

The same sculpts as AB--from when they were Battle Honours with a "u"--are available from Old Glory 15s, and a good deal more economically, as cfuzwuz points out; for example:

They just got rolled over into the AB line.

12p? Huh.

FreiKorps from QRF is well sculpted and the most complete line available. Unfortunately they are small by today's standard but will mix with Minifig and the older Battle Honours.

FireZouave10 Jun 2009 10:03 a.m. PST

I would definitely say AB or Battle Honours are by the same sculptor and currently the best on the market for quality of sculpts and variety. Although I have not see the new Peter Pig sculpts.

We can't help it if other people went and got big ;-)

Speaking for US makers (which were not mentioned):

GFI/Minifigs
Musket Miniatures
Stone Mountain Miniatures

Each have sold tons to repeat customers so there are LOTS of people who like them! 8>)

The Old Glory sculpts are nice, but from what I have seen, they are undone by the molds. I'm painting up a few hundred OG ACW rebs for a friend of mine, and many figures have parts of their faces or the gaps between hands and bodies filled with lead due to chunks being torn out of the molds.

There are a few interesting anatomical issues with the figures, but overall the sculpts themselves are pretty good. In the interests of full disclosure, I have no idea how old the figures I'm working on are, but they're bagged up in groups of 30 or 50 so they're not ancient.

Sorry to be late with comment but holidays do these things! Anyway, I've recently painted over 400 of the Peter Pig figures – at a very reasonable price:) – and found the figures excellent both in quality and speed of painting. I would agree AB are still the 'best' but they have become rediculously expensive for the people I game with so I haven't had any to paint for a very long time now. OG are cheap but I've had issues with 'cleaning up' in the past…I don't know if they've changed at all nowadays.

Who does the best artillery?

How do the old battle honours and AB match up? I know they were by the same sculptor.
