I keep finding lots of models for World War Two, but not for World War One, though apparently these were the U-Boat types that were done and used during WWI: uboat.net/wwi/types Any suggestions??? Know of any WWI model subs that could work for 15mm? Thanks. CC TMP link |

If I do that, I guess I should get a copy of Osprey's "U-boats of the Kaiser's Navy" . . . link link Plus . . . link CC |

I don't know of any WW1 subs in 1/100 but MY Miniatures do 15mm WW2 U Boat crew which could be used for WW1. Rod Langton produces a very nice 1/200 scale UB class U boat which would be a good guide for scratchbuilding your own in 1/100. rodlangton.com/ww1/ships.htm |

There are some plans for a 1/350th scale UB kit here which you could scale up on the photocopier as a guide for a scratchbuild: link |

Also, Pendraken do an 8'' long 10mm scale WW2 resin U Boat which could be used as the basis for a 15mm WW1 sub with only a little modification e.g. adding a 15mm deck gun, remodelling the conning tower, adding some crew etc link It would certainly save you the effort of carving a hull! |

This would work though it is a little large at 1/144 just say it's a type 22 link |

What is the obvious visual difference between WWI and WWII subs? I freely admit I know little about the subject but if you were to use a waterline WWII sub in a WWI game would anyone notice? |

I believe the WWI subs to be smaller than the WWII subs but I have to find my sub book. |

I should point out that the backstory on Mystri Island is that the Germans are sending those huge transport uboats there because of their long range and big cargo capacity -- Mystri Island is in the south pacific. I know that doesn't dictate anything to gamers, but FWIW the boats in my backstory would be very atypical WWI boats. |

The Revell Type VII, (the smaller one) is about 1/120th scale and suitable for 15mm. With some reconstruction of the fairwater and the aft end of the sail, it resembles some of the later war boats of WWI. |

Hi If you're not to fussy there is a card Japanese submarine with midget submarines on deck at link If you're a dab hand you could use a graphics program to change the nationality etc. From other posts, "According to a japanese site this model is actually ~1:124 scale at A4, if you print it on A3 this comes out as 1:87 (HO Scale)" Hope it helps Cheers Vic Pocilujko |

have some photos of crew in the Med. Seems to be normal warm weather kit. I presume you would want a UBIII type. Straight forward shape, even the coning tower is fairly easy. Only thing would be the curve on the hull sides and the extra width around the gun deck. A lot of the decking could be represented by drawing on the planking. A friend is doing a 6' model of the Bismark from cardboard and carbody filler/putty. (bog) Cuts the carbord to shape, bogs it up, gives it a sand. done. Maybe use Styrofoam as the basic shape, then bogged? Card conning tower, two Scopes? |

I wonder if Khurasan is still interested in getting a U-Boat crew set done. Dan TMP link |

Black Cat Bases in the UK carry some of the Little Green Man ranges- they may be able to get hold of his U-boat- a great little boat- I use mine as a coastal 20mm type
.but will make a good ocean going WW1 type. |
