How would you go about building a 15MM Modular Sewer?

Thanks to this Thieses post:

…and the arrival of my first order from Old Crow:

I have come to the conclusion that I must build a Modern Sewer…later this year.

Any ideas on how to do this one guys?

I have some already, but I wanted to put this out, for the fun of the topic, and to see what you crazy people might come up with link wise.

To start off, I think it would be cool to buy some Plasticard Strips, and some small PVC Pipe, to add on to the Old Crow items I just received.

Now to add some detail, I have my selection of Skulls and City Trash, which I completed this week as a part of the Base Details for my A.I.'s project.

The thing to figure out now, is how to do the water…and make it look good when laying out each section of the game terrain.

I am trying for a flexible layout, sort of like good old Space Hulk or the more recent ZOMBIES Cards.

Ideas?

Woodland Scenics makes some PVA-based water effects.

Legions of Steel and the Zombies cards are all the same size tiles, IIRC, so I'd lay out everything on a 10cm (roughly 4") square (at 1/100 scale, that's 10 meters across). I think you can find pictures of all the tile pieces from Legions of Steel on boardgamegeek.com, in fact, link

I'd lay out each section, base it on MDF board or whatever, paint everything up, and then put a piece of cling-wrap across each end of the channel, then pour in the water effects. let that stuff sit undisturbed for at least a day, and protect it from dust.

Hey Star Lion

How would I put in my Trash, Rotten Bodies & Skulls?

I do not want them to be super gloss, unlike the water, which should shine.

I was thinking to paint the areas of water, and the attached detailes at the same time then dull coat them, and then do all the water effects.

Michael, the Woodland Scenics stuff Lion mentions has instructions on how to put things into the water. I think it would be your best bet. Here's a direct link to WS site:

I would cut 2" plastic pipes into short lengths and then cut them down the middle (longways) so you end up with lengths of 'U' shaped tube (like sticks of cellery).

You can make angled elbows using a cheap plastic mitre.

Glue down to bases 'U' shape uppermost and on the OUTSIDE pack in filler that has been mixed with brown / black paint, so the tube section looks embedded in soil / muck / cack etc.

Then paint the inside to look like the inside of a sewer, Drop in any artifacts you want like rats, skulls, crocodiles !!! etc and then pour the scenics water ( or cheaper – one of the lighter polywood stain varnishes – satin might give the right level of shean) blocking off the tube ends of course – I would keep the water level quite low.

The other half of the tube can 'rested' on top of the sewer section, when figures are not in that length to maintain a visual effect of piping – or used to make other bases.

Cool ideas, thank you!

LEGO!

Ok, I have been building a Corridor system out of Lego. And that has been my primary focus this spring.

For my never run or completed Sewer Wars game the terrain was going to be 3 inch squares of two layers of foam-core the lower layer would be water, with the upper being the service walkways.

Hirst Arts pipe sets and 1" tiles using water effects based on foam core, or if you really like it exact and robust, Litko laser cut wood bases. I'm making a modular cavern set this way on 3x3" tiles.

Thank you for the info.

There are a few ways I can go with this project I think.
It will be fun…

I started in on that concept a couple years ago. Haven't pursued it, but it still has merit:

Yup…it will be a fun project. Thank you for the link. The plastic craft screen is a great idea.

I guess I can get ideas from this too:

Higher Ground Games sells individual casts of all different sizes of pipe, and Hirst Arts has some great sewer molds. I believe they can be set up to be modular. They also have more of a cavern feel set.

Imagine them populated by dozens of these:

Any other scratch-built examples of sewers out there?
