What enemy forces do you have for your pirates? |
John the OFM | 10 May 2009 7:28 p.m. PST |
Other pirates, of course
My Pirates are a nice mix of Foundry, Old glory and Eureka, with a few from just about every other range that is even remotely compatible with 25/28mm. On land, I have British Marines from Old Glory. I have Spanish troops, from Wargames Foundry Marlburians, with Fop cavalry from OG. My pirate universe has "evolved" into a general 18thC universe of riff-raff, scoundrels and rapscallions. this includes visits from FIW skirmish, 1798 Irish, Cossacks, and of course, sedan chair racing fans. |
John the OFM | 10 May 2009 7:44 p.m. PST |
Of course, I justify fighting Indians from the historical epic, Peter Pan. |

How do you tell one gang of pirates from another, then? |
ETenebrisLux | 10 May 2009 7:48 p.m. PST |
(before anyone else says it.. ) .. Ninjas.. of course :D |
redmist1122 | 10 May 2009 7:53 p.m. PST |
Along what has been mentioned, I also use the OG25's Cannibals. |
aecurtis | 10 May 2009 7:54 p.m. PST |
Pirates do not fight. Pirates terrorize, intimidate, and rob. It is a silly question. |
Pizzagrenadier | 10 May 2009 8:08 p.m. PST |
Don't forget Vikings. My band is a steady crew of English Marines led by an officer and some ships crew to round it out. Mostly OG 25s. The club I am in is getting ready to do the GW Historicals High Seas system (can't remember what it is called) soon. We have several pirate crews, a French crew, and a second English crew IIRC. Gonna be fun to scour the seas slitting Pirate throats
muhahaha. |
Shagnasty | 10 May 2009 8:10 p.m. PST |
We fight each other to get at the Spanish of course. Down with the Dons! |

How do you tell one gang of pirates from another, then?
It's easy to tell the ones I have painted from others. Style differences, and all that. |

We built a scottish ECW army with them, shipcrews being pressed into the army and all that. |
Top Gun Ace | 10 May 2009 10:39 p.m. PST |
Other pirates, and of course, government troops, and their vessels. Then, of course, there are the Krakens. Picked up a couple of those on eBay for cheap, to battle it out with my 15mm vessels and figs. |
Cpt Arexu | 10 May 2009 11:48 p.m. PST |
Other pirates, natives, sharks, and giant insects (mostly ants but there's a scorpion and some spiders standing ready). I should get some Spaniards. |
Plynkes | 11 May 2009 1:26 a.m. PST |
If your pirates get into a fight then chances are they have made a massive blunder, and the end of their careers is nigh. Before long Len Goodman is going to be holding up his score card marking their efforts in the Tyburn Jig. Sev-en! |
Chris Palmer | 11 May 2009 4:01 a.m. PST |
As mentioned; other pirates, the Spanish, sometimes the English, and the occasional angry native or villager. |
Grelber | 11 May 2009 4:54 a.m. PST |
Each other The Governor's soldiers The locals (who sometimes aid the pirates against the repressive forces of the Governor) Cannibals Natives (when the Natives aren't busy doing Darkest Africa) Potentially, Arabs (on loan from my colonial forces) In the future: Indians Piratical orcs How do I tell them apart? I have two bands, both based for running about on the beach. One band has sand covered bases, the other has bases with sand and vegetation. Grelber |

I flew a Starfighter in the last game of the day and enjoyed myself lots. I don't know how a Pakistan/Indian War game got me buying Korean War planes, but it did. |

Spanish, ohter pirates, and lots and lots of jungle creatures. We spend much more time tramping about on land than actualy sailing. Oh and cannibles, although I lump them in with jungle creatures. And soon, just when things look to get repititius, I have a band of Sauhugan to climb over the side one dark night, possibly when the crew is drunk.
Ok so we play fun pirates, historical ones are a bit grim for regular fare. |

It is fun sacking Spanish colonial towns. To quote Jack Aubrey, "the Spanish are brave, but they are never ever ready". |
HerbyF | 14 Mar 2010 8:24 p.m. PST |
Mostly other pirate crews. But also merchants, various government navies & troops. Natives, islanders, central & south Americans, Africans. Local militias. |
DAWGIE | 14 Jul 2010 6:31 p.m. PST |
OTHER pirate crews, merchant crews, bar maids, prostitutes, pimps, bouncers, beggars, pickpockets, cutpurses, the town watch (if there is one), cannibals, hostile indians, sea monsters, zombies, skeletons, dinosaurs, cavemen, assorted domisticated live stock defending their youngkers, buffoon militiamen, other land lubbers that are found making a living in a pirate home port or some far off colony . . . MY pirates really, really, REALLY, try to avoid being seen by, exhcanging harsh words or even love taps with the real navy and the real army . . .
not much chance of profit going up against a man of war with professional sailing officer, crew and marines, or trying to fight it out with trained soldiers .
we be somewhat timid . . .

HOW do pirates tell each other apart in battle? well the ubermensch pirates wear long black overcoats with coal scuttle helmets, snappy looking uniforms, etc.
as for the rest of the piratical scum, one looks just as dirty and smelly as the next. . .
and hey, "(BLEEP) HAPPENS during the confusion of combat
DAWGIE!
