I would like to know if anyone has painted/stenciled/stamped this 2-color logo on the shoulders of 15mm figures? picture or link If so . . . HOW did you do it on such a small area? Thanks. CC |

By the way . . . Which looks better? With the red as a cross? link link Or with the red as an X? picture CC |

<head scratch> The red cross version looks good to me. |

But the million dollar question is how to paint it on the shoulders of a 15mm figure? Can it be done by us mere mortals? CC |

If you tell me how big the shoulder pad is, I could make you decals. :) John |

I would look into decals. Maybe you could scale down an image and make your own. In fact I found a how to article for making waterslide decals. PDF link |

I'd second the decal option but it looks like I'll have to third it in this instance |

To answer the original question: Paint a solid white circle. Paint the red "cross" over the white circle. Paint black (or what ever your background color is) "divots" at the edge of each white/red section to turn the circle into the scalloped "umbrella". Now if you *should* paint that at 15mm is a whole other topic. :) |

I like the x option and I think it can be painted. Paint a circle in black and then paint 8 white stripes with a thin black line in between. After that, paint in red four of the white stripes and that's it. |

'Real' Umbrella Corp security dudes don't wear patches. It hurts the ability to deny their actions

I hand-painted the Black Aces logo on all my Space Marines
in both 40K (full company) and Epic scale. Anything is possible :-) |

Frankly for 15mm, I'd paint a white circle and place two red dots on opposite sides. Anything else is overkill in my world. :-D Thanks, John |

I've always preferred the X version, because the other one can get confused with the red cross logo (at least at small sizes). |

love that CC!

I've always thought of it as white cross, red x. Painting a white circle with a red x or four red dots would work. |

A friend of mine painted the 101st airborne divisions puking buzzard patch on all his 15mm airborne troops for Flames of War. IIRC, it's a black square with a white triangle on it. your eye will fill in the rest of the details. I'd paint the Umbrella Corp logo as a white circle with a red X. If you get brave, you can scallop the edges and blackline the ribs between the colors. I'd use a technical pen for the black-lining, personally. |

I have never tried to paint this logo on a 15mm figure, but I think it can be done. I have painted enlisted rank stripes on 15mm WWII figures. If I were to paint this logo I would start with a white circle and then using my smallest brush add in the red parts. After that I would use the color of the surrounding uniform color to trim up the logo to make it look like an umbrella. If you are worried about the paint clumping then you could leave the log area unpainted when you are doing the shoulders. I hope this helps. Take care and have a great day

ciao, john. PS Ooops! I was Ninja'd back on the 10th. Sometimes it pays to read the entire thread before replying.

I vote decals, one slip of the brush and your starting over, I have tried painting chevrons and such and they just didn't look right, or get the correct angle or the right placement and decals worked far better and some fudge time to get them set. |

Then, the next question is . . . who makes umbrella decals? Dan |

So, the umbrella corp logo is trivial to turn into a decal. My question would be, "How big, in mm should it be for use as a 15mm shoulder patch"? |
tuscaloosa | 24 May 2010 11:59 a.m. PST |
Pull out your 15mm figures, and eyeball their shoulders. |
Lion in the Stars | 24 May 2010 1:15 p.m. PST |
About 1.5mm in diameter. Maybe 2mm. |
Lerchey | 25 May 2010 8:30 a.m. PST |
tuscaloosa, you assume that I *have* 15mm minis. I have very few, and I think zero humans. I generally don't use 15mm for my gaming. Lion, thanks. I need to run a decal sheet in the next day or two. I'll work up a couple of sets to see how they look at that size. For variety, I'll likely do 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm and either 4 or 5mm (for vehicles, or the backs of civilian jackets or whatever). |
