I am not familiar with FoW at all, much less the packaging of their "Battlefield In A Box" goodies: link QUESTIONS: 1) There's only terrain pieces in that boxed set, right? (wouldn't want to end up with figures I will never need) 2) Do the roofs lift on those buildings? 3) Would those buildings work for most 15mm ancients? And most 15mm modern and SF figures, such as Rebel Minis, GZG, Old Crow and others? 4) Are there any detailed online reviews of that box set, with close-up photos, etc.? If so, where's the direct link? Thanks. CC |

I play FOW and I can tell you this. There are no figures in the box. Only terrain. I've never seen this set in person, but in the photo there is no obvious line where the roof meets the walls, so I don't see how the the roofs could lift off. |

Dan I think you would be better off with Kerr and King's city in a Box kerrandking.co.uk Over the last week, I've been wondering about aking Kerr and king to produce a 'Mos Eisley' = 'Mudd Eisley' City in a box. What you think? Mark |

Does anyone know if each of those FoW buildings can be purchased separately? Just in case one wants a couple extra buildings – aside from the full set. Thanks. CC |

Hey Mark, Never heard of those (Kerr and King) until now!!! Those look FANTASTIC: link link Plus they have more buildings and, apparently, more options for different configurations with them. CC |

"I think you would be better off with Kerr and King's city in a Box" I concur with Mark. I bought that a couple of years ago, with a few extras, and have been very happy with it. The K&K buildings also go well with Crescent Root's: link But note that CR will be closing next month for a few months to relocate; so order now if you want any. crescent-root.com/index.htm Allen |

I'd never seen Kerr and King before either – they look great, thanks for the recommendation! |

Miniature Building Authority also make a variety of buildings suitable for what you want. They all either convert to runs or have lift off roofs, come fully painted, and are sold individually: link Mark Severin Owner, Scale Creep Miniatures ScaleCreep.com |

Allen, Do you know if they (Crescent Root) have a "city-in-a-box" equivalent? link In other words, a set with each and every one of their unpainted desert buildings and walls? Or should I just email them to find out? Thanks. CC |
| Cacique Caribe | 14 Feb 2009 9:33 a.m. PST |
I just sent Crescent Root (mark@crescent-root.com) the following email . . . Hello, I started this TMP thread asking about a product by someone else, but Allen pointed me to your site instead: TMP link And, frankly, I like what I see of your 15mm desert buildings a lot more! QUESTION: Do you have a full unpainted set, with one of each of your 15mm desert buildings (like FoW and Kerr/King seem to have), or do I need to go one by one and select each piece separately? Thanks. Dan (aka "Cacique Caribe") |

Crescent Root sells their items separately. The quality is amazing, just got another order of their European 15mm in to include the church courtyard and the street scene. As Alan says though they will be closing next month for several months while Mark moves. He will take orders only up to the amount he believes he can finish and ship before the move so if interested need to order now. |

Thanks. I'm drawing up my list at this moment, so I can place the order before their move. CC |

Well, since everyone else is getting into the act I may as well mention PaperTerrain. We have North African buildings with lift-off roofs. They look good and they are very inexpensive. link |

LOL, this would go great with Rebel Minis new 15mm Greys link |

Do not forget that JR minis also makes 15mm Mideast terrain buildings that are pre-painted. Plus the roofs do come off, some of them even have a second flor that is removable too. I have a bunch & use them for all sorts of games including FoW & AA. |

Looks like CR isn't accepting new orders at the moment, CC. You may have to wait for them to reopen. |

Thanks Neotacha. I'll keep my list handy, for when they resume ops. CC |

I received the following email from Mark Neimeyer of Crescent Root. ------------------------------------- Dan, Thank you for your inquiry. I really like the city-in-a-box idea. I am in the beginning stages of moving to another state and when I set up shop again, one of my goals is to improve the packaging of my products so that an entire line of models can be shipped in a single organized box that will also provide the customer with a convenient tool for long term storage. Currently, ordering can only be done a building at a time. Thanks again and please let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Mark crescent-root.com |

Never heard of Kerr and King before, does anyone know how they look with 20mm figures? |
| nazrat | 20 Feb 2009 4:09 p.m. PST |
I would say on the small side. The stuff I have is just right with my 15's, so 20's would tend to tower a bit. |
| Cacique Caribe | 07 Jun 2009 1:53 a.m. PST |
I can't get over how nice these look: link And check this out (yes, I know this particular one is from their 28mm range): link Here's their 15mm line: link CC |

Caribe When I looked at the Crescent Root buildings I immediately started to imagine a town for a "For a Few Dollars More" scenario. Painted differently a couple of the buildings could be used for "The Magnificent 7" village too. I already have a western town with clap board structures, but the crescent buildings would be great for a Mexican quarter, or at least one of the buildings to be used as jail. |

Can someone tell me why it is that the Kerr & King 20mm buildings look identical to some Wills HO kits? KK-072 20mm Agricultural Building-Barn is clearly a copy of the Wills railway scenery kit. I have one sitting in front of me. KK-071 20mm Agricultural Building-Ruined Barn is clearly a ruined version of the same model by Wills. KK-069 20mm Industrial Building-Pump House is again a Wills Kit. Are these licensed copies or just rip offs? If they are licensed copies then they are appear to be fairly expensive versions of the Wills kits, which are nice models, easy to make and generally easy to find at railroad shops. |
