Though the idea of a mall sounds great, I think it's a bit too ambitious for me to attempt for 28mm figures. TMP link So, instead I would like to see how practical and easy it would be to build something smaller. QUESTION: Has anyone here ever built a grocery store or supermarket for 28mm figures? I have some idea of how to do the walls and doors, but would really love to see photos and ideas on how to make the isles' stands and racks, as well as the check-out counter. Perhaps something like this layout, but that could fit on a 2" x 2" or 2" x 4" surface? picture Thanks. CC |

Bob, That link gave me a great idea on what to use for the floor. Unless I'm mistaken, from what I can see in the photos, it looks like they used a sheet of dollhouse tile. Thanks! CC |

I'd love to see a Wal-Mart or similar big box store portrayed in 28mm. |

CC, have you been watching "Alien Raiders" again? |

Doc: "I'd love to see a Wal-Mart or similar big box store portrayed in 28mm." That's EXACTLY what I'm shooting for, though I'm not quite sure what the minimum size would be. Any suggestions as to size (for 28mm)? Thanks. CC |

I think you could handle a small strip mall on a 2x4 foot area, with 10" or so wide for each of four stores, and maybe 12" deep for each, with dumpster areas out back, and some sidewalk out front and parking. Perhaps have the corner store be larger, and stretch out nearly the full 2'. But a large grocery store? Figure 10" for each aisle, plus some room between them all around, and cashier stations up front and more shelves along the back (plus the usual deli/butchers area). You would need 2' depth just to cover the basics. And only 2' wide would not allow for many aisles. Going the full 4' wide would do it. You might be able to recreate a small S-Mart in that size. Of course, a shopping mall would be better, but talk about a long-term project! Think multiple stories to save on footprint. Still, a lot of effort. Have you seen the floorplans for the mall done by Steve Jackson (Mall of the Dead)? It's a nice model, with some good ideas (basement and two upper levels). sjgames.com/floorplans/fp4 Can't find mine right now or I'd double-check the size of the thing. The map uses squares, so it's easy to convert into actual model structures. But if you want more info on this, I will find it and report back in. |

SG, Thanks for the great info. I was trying to get away from doing multiple stories (for storage and durability reasons), so I think a smaller (Walmart-like) place might fit best. Hey, I could even call it Hellmart, or something along those lines! CC |

I know this isn't exactly like your looking for CC but this has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. link You'll have to scroll down almost to the bottom for color pictures of the finished building. |

If you're up for cutting-and-folding WorldWorks Games does a line of modern that has stores. link Unless you're doing fiddly things like making a cooler that will open up they're generally rather quick to complete. |

I own a small grocery store, that's scary enough. |

Look at this! link Should work for 15mm, but they must have something similar for 28mm (I hope). CC |
