Here we go again, but it is fun to muse such things…

Take a seriously large alien ship with a compliment of smaller craft, same ship enters the solar system, makes for Earth as a last resort as they have no where else to go and can't go any further, partial control allows for a limited orbit, the aliens make the best of it by transferring and evacuating as many as possible…then the main ship's orbit fails…it breaks into the atmosphere and eventually ground fall…ship go boom, big bada boom.

Ok the fun part is what next?

When did this event take place? Today, tomorrow, yesterday…which yesterday?

Aliens, alien flora, alien fauna, alien tech…all fun stuff to consider.

Not the overlords of bad science fiction, rather consider a super freighter (ship) adrift for years finally making land fall by wrecking into a rocky shore of a truly remote island with stone age tribes. The remaining crew, their stuff, their knowledge….

I am more inclined to consider the short and long term results of the little things that come with the big ones.

The alien rats, cockroaches, mice, fleas, ticks, silverfish, flies, etc. that go along with the freighting effort.

The mold, mildew, fungus, slime, spores, etc. that creep and grow in those dark recesses of the damp areas of the ship.

The crew, the crew's pets, the crew's food, and what ever else is alive will want to survive in some manner…especially the stuff without intelligence.

The when is tonight at midnight…projected planet fall is expected in the next week to 10 days.

Ships have been seen leaving the main ship, landing in remote areas, and then returning to the main ship. The main ship is assuredly damaged and is apparently failing to maintain orbit…and it is big…at least 5 miles long.

Other small "pods" have been seen ejecting towards Earth, again in remote areas, without any real control and it is assumed these are escape craft.

…now the fun begins…

(really fun if you start the game as the aliens making planet fall…armed with enough knowledge of Earth from transmissions that the planet is peopled with a lower tech race, an aggressive people who can be expected to shoot first…)

I would like to canvas for 3 alien races.

1st is the primary and highest order (think human compared to the rest of flora/fauna on Earth)

2nd is a partner species to the first with equal rights but perhaps slightly limited potential due physical rather than social issues (like needing to breath water around air breathers or the like)

3rd is an uplifted or a new species that has limited desire for more status than it has for developmental reasons rather than social, opportunity exists but desire to understand or expend may not be (think chimp compared to man with a science fiction nudge…prefers forest because it feels right and the thought of all tech makes life uneasy)

But that is not to say that the aliens are humanoid, mammalian, or the like.

What are your first thoughts of what would be interesting (as the aliens on today's Earth) and some of the whys?

Pics that show some nature of your choices would be fun even if it is a starting reference (pic of cuttle fish to start the image and then incorporate it into a semi-humanoid, but we can relate to the cuttle fish starter..)

Well?

A more complex version of Alien Nation?

Yep … remindes me of Alien Nation …

What happens when a 5 mile long ship breaks up and falls through the atmosphere? Lots of really big craters and a new ice age?

If it falls in the ocean a huge tsunami and steam cloud.

The Black Tower05 Jan 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

Tom has it right. There would be not much left of the spaceship,
Were the Aliens wise enough to land well away from the crash zone or areas damaged by the impact Tusnami etc

Aliens 1 Humans 0 we are left with a PA earth

Maybe humans taste nice and are hunted for sport.
Or Earth is terraformed for their needs.

Cacique Caribe05 Jan 2009 10:52 a.m. PST

"the crew's pets"

Chupacabras, of course!

If humans were given only a couple of areas to contain, that would make it more even.

Biological compatibility? If the castaways can't eat terran plants/animals and survive long-term (kinda like honorverse treecats and celery), then there *has* to be some planting of non-native food-crops. Does your mothership even have plantable survival rations?

Humans will probably be a little upset at the catastrophic kaboom that kicked of a minor ice age, even if it was an accident.

Speaking of which, was it an accident, or was there hostile action that caused the loss of the mothership in the first place?

Cacique Caribe05 Jan 2009 3:07 p.m. PST

Ahh, but what if we were all seeded from the same source and they are simply now reconnecting with their distant genetic cousins?

Then we would all be mutually edible, right?

Who knows? They might just taste like chicken.

We already have aliens among us – they're called cats!

The "landing" would assumedly be slightly controlled by the ship's failsafes and thusly would enter the atmos and find a safe zone to make planet fall…so no we are not all dead :(

The majority of the ship is intact although somewhat canabilized due to the extended 3 hour tour…so crashed more like the enterprize when it made landfall…

and before this becomes a hate on ST, this is just a reference :)

The alien nation was a good point as that is a direction I was considering but not so much the easy transission…more along the lines of how to stay out of human contact as much as possible kinda thing.

28mmMan06 Jan 2009 9:05 a.m. PST

As for the survivibility of the crew, flora, fauna…I am going to say hundreds of "seed" pods were released before planetfall…this was a homesteading mega ship heading for a new home…diverted due attack…drifted for long time…found Earth…I would like to say 50:50 for compatibility just for the sake of keeping the game idea alive…and I would like to play with the idea of places that are hard for us to live which would help in the hide from humans thing…artic/underwater/without light/vent breathers/etc…

I am trying to get to the 25yrs later portion of the show :)

So chin up and think positive..let's save our people and our way of life…let us except our new opportunity and make the best of it…and damn the humans if they don't give us a chance…we will take our chances as they come!

Lion in the Stars06 Jan 2009 1:12 p.m. PST

Ok, so it was hostile action that caused the event in the first place. Is the hostile still after the ship, or did they somehow break contact and get lost?

Next question, what niche do your survivors fill (air-breathers/water-breathers/air-breathing water-dwellers)? How did humanity not find them all and either quarantine or exterminate?

28mmMan06 Jan 2009 10:38 p.m. PST

I was just making conversation…no worries…have a good one all

Lampyridae07 Jan 2009 7:01 p.m. PST

5 miles long is a touch big. At that size, you could accomodate the entire population of the Earth if you go for the same construction / density as say an aircraft carrier. Maybe 5 miles long and really really thin?

28mm Man,

Have you done anything else with this idea of yours?

Well, I think this is a fantastic idea. I actually really like the idea of the mothership making such an impact when it lands that it threatens to start a new ice age.

I think the most important question, which needs to be answered before the other questions, is how many aliens are on board? A few ten-thousand are going to get overwhelmed, unless they breed like rabbits. A few hundred million might be able to just take over the planet if they are advanced enough. Somewhere in between allows for other possibilities.

It is a fun idea…it does have potential.

The Game Crafter01 Jun 2009 7:24 p.m. PST

Dragon ball universe earth a 1000 years from now dozens of aliens races, humans, mutants and geneticly engineered species all mixed together nobody is sure who is what allways liked that concept. Two novels by Phillip Jose Farmer "Image of the Beast and Blown" shape shifting imortal aliens land on earth in prehistoric times form basis for all mythology from gods to supernatural great concept good read Warning very strong sexual content.

Lampyridae01 Jun 2009 9:51 p.m. PST

It's actually quite hard to limp into orbit and then have that orbit fail on you. Your worst capture attempt with minimal propulsion would give you a high altitude orbit stable for millions of years. Only if you're aerobraking (multiple passes to lower the orbit) do you have a strong possibility of crashing into the ground.

Sorry, had to get that out.

Warbeads04 Jun 2009 2:56 p.m. PST

Coachroaches are the degenerate descendents of the Aliens, extremely resilient but degenerate.

Gracias,

Ok. And what if they don't come to Earth, but prefer another planet on our solar system?
