Just wondering if there's been anything written about any relationship between the lizardlike Horibs and the Pterosaur-like Mahars of Pellucidar. They don't seem to have much in common except that they both live in the hollow earth, and they're both intelligent reptiles races. I've only read a couple of Pellucidar books (Tarzan at the Earth's Core and another whose name escapes me), and I don't recall whether the two races were even aware of each other, or whether they were related, had diplomatic contact, shared resources, warred, or whatever. Were there any references anywhere in the series? -Alex |

I don't remember any mention of the two mixing or even knowing about each other. IIRC the Mahars were dealt with kind of early in the series and didn't make further appearances
but maybe there were other groups of them that went unmolested. |

No real relationship. Two different reptilian "evolutionary" paths. One a basic pterosaur with intelligence and "psychic" abilities, and the other intelligent reptile "men" that domesticated lesser dinosaurs. Regards, the Gorb |

No relationship is ever mentioned in the Pellucidar series. I think ERB used them for simple intelligent monsters for keeping tension in his stories. The Mahars only were in the first two: "At the Earth's Core" & "Pellucidar." While Horribs only appeared in: "Tarzan at the Earth's Core." Mugwump |

"Look, Mom, my relationship with Thog is complicated, okay? Just because we've shared an apartment cave for eight years—" "Ten, dear." "Okay, ten, that doesn't mean I'm ready for a permanent commitment! Yeah, I know, I've had six broodlings with the guy
" "Seven." "Whatever! But that doesn't mean we have to get married!" "It used to." "STAY OUT THIS, DAD! I've heard that story." "Dear, please. Now, Breena, your father and I have been very happy together. We've never regretted one minute of our lives." "(Actually, I can think of a few. Like the minute that wingless cretin climbed up to our stoop.)" "(Shh, you're not helping, dear!) Breena, your father and I are just concerned about your future." "Well, it's my future, okay!?! It's my relationship and my life, and it's got nothing to do with you two anymore!" "Harrumph." "(Broga, hush!) Of course, dear. But we're here for you whenever you need us, just the same." "Well, that's good. Because, uhm, uh
Congratulations!" "(Not again
)" "What is it, dear?" "That seven is going to be eight!" "(Groan
)" Even in Pellucidar, relationships can be a touchy subject

You know, I should probably apologize for that post. I just got hit by a moment of silliness

Actually, since I grew up as a "bi-racial" child, I thought it was funny, gentle while mildly pointed, and silly in a good sense. No apologies needed, Parzival. Gracias, Glenn |

I thought the Horibs and Mahars being involved sexually was going to be the subject discussed – at least from the post title. Was I the only one (other then Parzival maybe) who had that thought? Gracias, Glenn |

No apologies needed. It was actually the most amusing thing I've read all day. |

"Didn't Threeng and Bhrogan grow up nice and strong, dear?" "Sure, hon. The grandkids look great. (No thanks to that worthless no-wing lizard of a son-in-law.)" "What was that, dear?" "Just admiring their fine wing structure. (Got that from me at least.)" "Yes, they are very handsome. Just like their father!" "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" |
