Hi All Does anyone know if anyone is making Australian Aboriginals in 28mm? I'm after them for the period 1600-1850. With traditional weapons, shields etc. Having said that, with musket type firearms is OK also. I'm sure someone did? If not, any advice on a substitute? Thanks |

Hi CC The Pulp figures will probably fit the bill. Many thanks! |

HOLY COW! They are $3.00 USD USD per figure, FOR FOOT!!!! That takes them off the list. At almost $5.00 USD AUD before postage, NO WAY! I'll probably go with the OLD GLORY Maori Warriors. "heavy sigh" Cheers |

I'd follow Cacique Caribe's suggestions for conversions. Australian Aboriginals were not noted as firearms users, except for the 'Native Police' – who made the worst of the settlers look like Sunday School Teachers. For the late 1600's thru to sometime in the late 1700's(?) you could also get away with archers in Far Northern Australia for tribes in contact with Papua. Although fairly well documented as users in early explorer's accounts, for some unknown reason they had given up actually using bows by the time the first permanent white settlers came into the area, although they still carried them as a status item and traded for them regularly with Papua. As for the 'Floriensis' tribes, there were stories recorded by the early white settlers in the Cape York area from the Aboriginal tribes that there were deadly pygmies in the jungle and that some areas were to be totally avoided. |

"As for the 'Floriensis' tribes, there were stories recorded by the early white settlers in the Cape York area from the Aboriginal tribes that there were deadly pygmies in the jungle and that some areas were to be totally avoided." Awesome. I didn't know that. Thanks Bsrlee! CC |

Hi Hawkwood is correct. They are for "imagi-nation" use, not historical. Cheers |

"imagi-nation"? I must have missed something. Is that a rule set or something? CC |

My abbo minis went on walkabout, cant find them anywhere.8^) C.C. evdently while you were down south, a whole slew of imaginary lands were born. They use established rules sets in a fictional setting. As war minister of Bongolesia, I am at war with Cavenderia. Consider it as Conan kingdoms in a 17th century setting. By the way, your natives looked good. |

Cannon Fodder has molds for excellent purpose-sculpted native Australians, four or five poses, iirc. They are not listed on the Cannon-Fodder website, but a message to Greg Blake (Mr. Cannon Fodder) might very well get you more information. The sculpts are beautiful, capturing the unique physical characteristics and physiognomy of native Australians very well. And Trailaipe, Cannon Fodder is an Aussie company, low shipping! |

Hi Guys I did check on CFM, but as you state, they are not listing the Australian Aboriginals, (AA). Thanks for the tip. I'll contact him. SHELLDRAKE: combined we might convince CFM to do a recast. I'm after about 40 figs. Cheers |
shelldrake | 14 Dec 2008 4:06 p.m. PST |
Trailape – i have emailed CFM re the figures – Greg has one figure in metal and a number of others in Greens, hopefully i will be getting a photo of the cast figure tonight or tomorrow. The figures are $2.50 AUD each. I am up for a few figures, and maybe others reading this post will be interested too, so a recast would be viable. |
shelldrake | 15 Dec 2008 1:01 a.m. PST |
Trailape – have sent you the reply i received from CFM, including photos. There is also Bushrangers that are at the Green stage, which would be fantastic to see. |

I hope CFM comes to the party and releases a 28mm Australian colonial range, as there is certainly plenty of skirmish potential in the subject. In a slim volume of frontier memoirs I recently came across at the local library, I found described an amusing incident that opens up the possibility of a whole new field of skirmish gaming: harlequin warfare on the Australian frontier. During an attack on the fortified camp of a party of WA pioneers in the 1860s, a member of the party with acrobatic and clowning experience donned one of his 'most ridiculous costumes' and briefly stunned the attacking natives into immobility by performing a series of cart-wheels in front of them! However, his initial amusement changed very quickly to terror when they attempted to capture him. |

I'm in for 20 various native Australians from Cannon Fodder if we can convince Greg to pay for the mold for his uncast greens. I'd love to have them, having seen photos of the greens some years back, and always lusted after them. I'll send you guys a PM each. OOOPS, can't PM you because you aren't supporting members ! So please email ME at chicklewis@aol.com to move this project forward. Chick |

Chick – after a few emails with CFM it is unlikely this project will move ahead :-( |
