Would this ship . . .

. . . work with these guys I've ordered?

peterpig.co.uk/range10.htm

Or is the actual size difference too great?

I don't see why not.

Ships were various sizes, so that's close enough for me.

My wife just started to build this model. It's a little "cartoony" but it looks like it'd work well for gaming.

15mm pirate figures should be fine. I pulled out some old Preiser bus station figures (1/87?) to modifiy for use as her crew.

Smer do a 1/120 scale pirate ship which might be more 'realistic' and would scale out better:

I've got one unmade and it seems to fit with the Peter Pig pirate figures fine.

Boggler,

In that case, would 1/130 be too small?

Let me know what you think about this possibility:

Thanks a million.

Boggler,

Check out the detail in that model:

The only deciding factor is the scale compatibility issue, of course.

I own that ship. It's the smallest Pirate ship I own. I think the Lindberg Pirate ships would work out better. I'm using several of them for my 1/72 Pirates. Plus you can get the 40% off coupons from Hobby Lobby and pick them up there for around 10-12 bucks each.

Thanks,

John

John,

What are you using to cut off the bottoms to your ships. Dremmel, saw, something else?

I think 1/130th would be pushing it as the 1/120th Smer ship isn't big by any means.

That's Revell's old Captain Hook ship. It's about 45-50 years old. I remember building it as a kid. Had the devils own time putting that skull on the bow. It is probably better for 6-10mm figs than 15's

Cacique Caribe30 Oct 2008 10:54 a.m. PST

Mikhail,

Now I'm more confused than before.

Are you saying that this ship is not really 1/72, or are you refering to one of the others suggested above?

Revell do an HMS Bounty in 1:110 and the Santa Maria in 1:96, scale wise they will fit best with the PP figures

Black Bull30 Oct 2008 2:54 p.m. PST

HMS Beagle in 1:96 aswell

I'd be inclined to go with a larger ship just so there's more room to move figures around on the decks, if shipboard skirmishing is what you're after.

Mikhail Lerementov30 Oct 2008 5:19 p.m. PST

Cacique, it is the old Peter Pan Pirate Ship from the 1960s. It is rather small and would fit 6-10mm better than 15mm.

You may have seen it as the "ghost ship" with glow-in-the-dark paint. I would go with one of the larger ships for 15mm. Or check out Hobby Lobby and see if they have one of the cheap wooden three masters and cut it at the water line. I've seen those done up for wargaming and they do look nice.

Mikhail Lerementov31 Oct 2008 3:06 p.m. PST

Cacique, I measured the ship. It's about 7" at the waterline and the deck is around 8.5" long from the bow to the stern. Found it opened at Michaels. Looks like the widest part of the deck would be about 2-2.5" wide.

I use a Dremel tool on my plastic ships. I have also just scored the plastic with an Exacto knife and then snapped it off. On my wood ships I use my Band saw.

Thanks,

John

@ Mikhail: why 6mm? strictly speaking that ship is 1/96 no matter what is on the packaging, which it is listed as in the current Revell catalogue where it is again called the pirate ghost ship. 1/96 is really slightly larger than what is normally thought of as 15mm, though with the swelling of 15mm figures some go all the way up to 1/87.

Having been aboard the replicated Duyfken and Endeavour, might I just say that if it looks a bit small it's probably right. Otherwise you might like to try the Revell USS Constitution or Heller HMS Victory?
