In case anyone wants to build anything like it.

Could be used for a secret Nazi base, or for a 007 adventure too, right?

Scenes like this come to mind whenever I see those pre-made pond bases in garden shops.

Dewbakuk15 Jul 2008 2:26 a.m. PST

Ooh, good call MrDodo. Shame I don't have the space :(

Smokey Roan15 Jul 2008 5:32 a.m. PST

So who's gonna build it and inspire us?

Why, there is a small island JUST LIKE THAT right off the eastern coastline of Bongolesia not too far from Port Tuziak.
A delightful little place it is, now that the smugglers, cannibalistic natives, bloodthirsty butchering pirates, and poisonous snakes and spiders have been mostly cleaned out.

The Govt. will be happy to lease it to you…for a nominal fee of course…

Dewbakuk15 Jul 2008 10:55 a.m. PST

If I move house soon (which is a possibility) then I may have to. Damn you all!

Cacique Caribe15 Jul 2008 12:25 p.m. PST

You could always put some dinosaurs and cavemen on it too . . .

It's me. It'd probably become a Steampunk pirate haven :D

This is the "Vulcania" restaurant in Tokyo:

And this is one way to get there:

I have never forgiven Disney World for taking away the "20,000 leagues" ride!!!

:(

Tanuki16 Jul 2008 2:53 a.m. PST

Smokey, it's still at Tokyo Disney Sea, along with the Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Inside a giant volcanic island, no less, with some authentically VSF detailing and a life-size copy of the Nautilus:

OTOH, Tokyo Disney is the busiest theme park I've ever been to :(

Cacique Caribe23 Sep 2008 10:30 p.m. PST

How about having some Pirates AND Dinosaurs on it???

Flying Steampunk pirates, naturally. Right? I mean, who doesn't love an aerial pirate? Really?

Anyone who doesnt surely wounldn't peruse this particular board!

Skies of Arcadia JWOMACK94?

Anyways, that is pretty sweet, seems like it'd fit in great with Crimson Skies.

Sargonarhes24 Sep 2008 4:18 p.m. PST

Damn if that isn't one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. Just so well done for the time it was made, and the recent remakes of it a few years back were horrible by comparison. Even today the giant squid attack still gives me the creeps.

If you want to see another steampunk type of movie I recommend the anime movie Steamboy. They got Patrick Stewart to voice the grandfather and have Victorian steam powered armored suits. Fits the VSF very well.

The photo is a bit grainy, but here are some of the installations within the crater bay:

Anyone got an idea of how big the island is supposed to be? Trying to determine how large it should be at in 1/1200 scale

Cacique Caribe18 Jul 2009 9:38 p.m. PST

Paul,

I think the photo link you provided is amazing:

But I guess this other illustration gives some idea of its size, when you compare it to the ships around it:

This island looks very much like Vulcania:

I would love to see someone make labs and buildings like the ones Disney's Nemo had in Vulcania:

Nemo-esque boats and landing craft would be fantastic too!

I guess there would have to be lots of space in the center lagoon to service a vessel this size:

Are those radars or something like it in the background of this picture?

Dan,

I'm thinking solar collectors.

Unless there were aeither fliers I didn't see in the movie. Speaking of aeither fliers
I think I'd add a deck gun or maybe a rocket battery to the Nautilus

As always at your service,

Colonel Hairy Haggis

"I'm thinking solar collectors"

Excellent guess!

Dan
