I recently finished an element of Hanoverians for my 25mm DBN armies, but they look so similar to the British that I thought it might be good to include a standard bearer on the stand with a distinctive non British flag. Does anyone out there know what colors the Hannover Verden Battalion carried. A link to a picture would make me a very happy camper. David |

TMP link has a variety of pages of a study on Hanoverian flags. One of them is of an unknown unit, so that might be an option. I suspect the actual colours aren't know. Certainly all the known colours are very different to British ones. |

Very Interesting, but if I'm reading correctly (my German is quite rusty) really only the three flags shown in the first link are known for the regular infantry. The rest we have are either landwehr or cavalry standards. link As the town coat of arms is a black cross on a white field, I am tempted to use a flag similar to the black flag with a white cross used by the Hoya ? battalion. Interesting connundrum I've gotten myself into. David |

It's not a conundrum at all. If there is no known history, you are very free! |

As you have noticed most Hanoverian flags are unknown, and those that are known don't seem to follow any set pattern. A good substitute would be the city coat of arms on a coloured or white field on one side with the white horse design on the other. The following site has German city coats of arms: ngw.nl/int/dld/germany.htm Pick the letter you want and the city. Verden is: ngw.nl/int/dld/v/verden.htm Cliff |
