From what movies or other SF sources you might recall, what human and what alien (presumably "Grey") traits would you expect? CC |
Mark Plant | 23 Oct 2007 1:29 a.m. PST |
Can nae be dunn, Cap'n!! Seriously, you might just be able to hybridise a Chimp and a Human, but you any further than that and you'd be making a nasty pink slime. The chances of alien DNA matching our is zero. A better question would be: if humans lived in wildly different environments (high pressure, water, ammonia rich atmospheres, etc) and went gene-splicing crazy so as to adapt, what looks could you get with human DNA? |
Cacique Caribe | 23 Oct 2007 1:40 a.m. PST |
Mark, Assuming it were possible . . . . . . like if the Greys were super-advanced humans from the distant future, come back to re-vitalize their gene pool, or something wild like that . . . What H. Sapien traits would the hybrids retain? CC |

The eyes would be the most distinct feature I believe. They would look more like this horribly disfigure thing. You don't want to have an "Close Incounter" with this. picture :) |

I believe the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia had a display of what if dinosaur evolution had continued. The hypothetical result was quite similar to a "Roswell grey". |

Either Sarah Alexander, which would be the best possible result, or a bald Michael Jackson, which would be the worst! |

Any alien to reach earth will no doubt be filthy rich. The cost of space travel is enormous. Their muscles will completely atrophy with eons of space travel to get here, so they will be a flexible folk. And they better get used to the supersize diet popular here and in so doing will go into diabetes faster than humans. So, let's see: rich slow moving couch potatoes with big guts. I'd say they are already among us. |

Most conceptions of aliens or future humans are that they are highly evolved mentally, but devolved physically. I don't think that makes much sense. Mark's point is more likely – that we will modify ourselves to be healthier, "better" looking, and to adapt easily to other environments. It's likely that there will be a privileged upper class that is tall, good looking, healthy, and intelligent – and then the rest of us. |

If the Liger (a lion-tiger hybrid) is any indication, an alien-human hybrid may end up being taller and bulkier than both, wouldn't it? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liger Sort of like the Tenctonese (in "Alien Nation"), right? link CC |

only if humans and aliens took their growth limitation gene from different genders and again only if aliens had genes |
Covert Walrus | 31 Oct 2007 10:54 p.m. PST |
S1ND3X, as a biologist I agree that aliens may not use DNA as we do, but they must perforce have some kind of heredity mechanism, so they will have genes. As for hybrids, probably you could get a blastula if the alien had tDNA like us, but not much more. |

I think the best thing to do would be to follow the young artists' representations from that aliensandchildren link in the last post. They seem to really know what they're doing, particularly in the first image. |

An advanced enough medical tech would probably mean that the grey aliens hybrids would show what ever features they decided were important, if any? I figure the point of creating a hybrid would be for some interal metabolic purpose rather than changing their outward appearance. That said though, of course the appearance would change, your link about the celeb's looks would probably give you all you need! |

in the BUCK ROGERS game/comic series from TSR, they used 'gennies'
(gene-modified humans) to populate/gene-form? the solar system. There were 'lizard-ish' humans modified
along with plants, animals etc
Venus (which was only PARTIALLY 'terra-formed'
'Terrines' were genetically engineered 'warriors/storm-trooper types'
Lunarians, 'martians'
even Jovian 'flyers' and Belters
(humans modified to be living 'spacesuits' etc) There were all sorts of 'different' beasties
(I have the game books and comics like I said)
but they were all basically modified 'humans'
.some had cybernetic enhancements of course and then..they also had 'downloaded' personalities/A.I'S in the 'net' too! Considering what they've done with sheep and corn so far
in a couple centuries
who's to say what 'off-shoots' of humanity might be like? Look at the 'Nietchians' from ANDROMEDA
organized into TRIBES, but also DELIBERTLY genetically engene-eered and also 'survival of fittest/Darwinian selection/fighting/killing off 'weaker/unfavorable gene-births'
etc? Considering the extremophile life on EARTH alone
(and isn't it all DNA-based???)
who could say that gene-splicing dna from 'tube-worm' life at bottom of ocean near smoker vents
wouldn't allow something 'humanoid' to do some of the same things
for example??? But would you let your sister MARRY one???? Slish? Sgt DWW-btod |

The Olsen twins: picture The dead giveaway are their strange faces, and mis-shapen lower limbs – they are part frog-alien (see their unusually large eyes for hunting insects at night). Here's a pic, when people aren't being subjected to their chameleon-like scent, which makes them look a bit more human: link |
