So birds are really very smart then? THAT MEANS THOSE B*ST*RDS ARE POOPING ON MY CAR WITH MALICIOUS INTENT? Ok, that's it, time to get a shotgun. It's ON, suckers! :-) |

"it just goes to show what a destroyer man really is, the Earth would certainly be better off without us." It never ceases to amaze me how much self loathing some people have for the human race. Makes me wonder why they bother to stay alive if we're that horrible. |

"It never ceases to amaze me how much self loathing" You think it's self-loathing? I always but it down to egoistic contempt, a kind of ‘sour grapes'. "If humans weren't worthless they would recognize how marvelous I am, pay attention to me and my ideas et cetera. |

"Actually the main reason is that they can't adapt to new environments, just as it has always been." Actually, they are adapting. That's why we have Bears,Wolves,Foxes,Squirels,Chipmonks, and the like coming in to out towns and cities. And what do we do when the Bear,Wolf,Fox,Squirel or Goffer adapt to out environment? We kill them off because they are becoming a menace! They are tearing up our nice lawns or eating our garbage or pets. I think, as well as others, that we as the Dominant species need to learn that we affect the environment in positive and negative ways and we should cease the negative and nurture the positive! |

Lugal, the birds that crap on your car are not the worry. Keas will literally strip off anything they can from a car and can even flatten the tires by ripping out the valves. We here suspect they trade the stuff with penguins for artifacts from the Old Ones cities, but that is unproven; Meet a Kea and you would think that way too. It's strange how the latest theories of evolutionary ecology in science are moving towards views of co-operative development in ecosystems, while the layity are still obsessed with the old Victorian/Rousseau 'dog-eat-dog' business. Adaptation is the art of doing what works, not what has worked in the past. |

Hmmm . . . "Kea" . . . "Kia" . . . That's where all those stolen car parts are going! The damn birds have their own auto "factories". CC |

I'd like to remind our eco-friends and all those that belive that Earth would be better off without humans need to remember something
The Earth is doomed, no matter what, the Earth is doomed, and so is all life upon it. Only intelligent action can save life and the only creatures that can do that are human. The Earth is the abode of life, but in order to survive, life MUST find it's way off this doomed planet. I might suggest that those in love with the current vogue of how wonderful Human extinction would be, need to read "The Fate Of The Earth" by Jonathan Schell, mainly the second chapter, "The Second Death" and reflect upon what is at stake and ponder the depths of extinction. "
Mankind cannot be a "spectator" at it's own funeral any more than any individual person can." No more art. No more music. No more science. No history. No memory. No witnesses. Nothing. |

The History Channel ran a short commercial of a documentary on this exact topic, scheduled for January 21, 2008 (might be a series). I can't find anything else about it on the internet though. CC |

Yup, in around 7 billion years or so the sun will have destroyed the Earth, possibly Mars if I recollect the program properly, and mankind would have to look at other galxies/universes or just live in massive ships travelling the cosmos – and perhaps genetically engineering ourselves to suit such an idea. T'was a good program, shame the kids made me change channel :-( |
