What do these look like "in the flesh"?

auction

How small/tall? How detailed? What figures do they fit in with?

Thanks.

CC
PS. I couldn't find any other photos of them anywhere.

If they're like any of the rest of the Star Trek movie figures, they're close to true 25mm. Can't speak for the detail, I don't have any myself.

Wait a second, are these supposed to be the same figures?

Some of the poses look similar, though these others look a bit thinner.

Dang, the auction sold already. If only the seller had a couple more sets of these….

Cacique Caribe29 May 2007 12:26 p.m. PST

Would they be comparable in size to GZG figures then?

I don't see why not. Check his auctions next week I'm sure they'll be back up, if not then the following week they will be back up.

The detail on the original figures was very good, although they were small 25mm, and in the case of the personality figures, closer to 20mm. I can't really comment on the detail of these recasts. If you want a set, drop a note to the seller. I'm sure he has a basket of them that he will be happy to sell to you.

"I can't really comment on the detail of these recasts."

Are they recasts?

CC,
I'll leave it for you to make up your mind on him. He's been discussed on the collecting citadel and the heritage collectors group. I wouldn't buy from him based on whats been said on those groups as well as just not liking to buy recast.

Cacique Caribe29 May 2007 1:29 p.m. PST

Ah. Thanks for the info.

He has been discussed on these pages too, but not in the last couple of years. I don't think there is much doubt that these are recasts. Having said that, if you want these figures you probably won't find them anywhere else.

nvdoyle29 May 2007 3:09 p.m. PST

He's always got the same lots of Traveller 15mm and 25mm stuff up again, and again, and again…and it's always primed…

mrwigglesworth29 May 2007 3:16 p.m. PST

He is a huge recaster!
How about this one CC.

Very, very nice, MW! I see LOTS of gaming potential, particularly if at least 8-10 variants could be produced.

I still wish for a day when we have the wrinkly kind of "Klingons" in a proper size for this day and age, say 28mm-30mm. :)

I have a couple of the originals. They were closer to 20mm than 25; they seemed a tad bigger than my plastic Airfix 1/75 scale figures.

Garand29 May 2007 6:00 p.m. PST

I have a couple of the originals, and I would definitely NOT call them 20mm (aka 1/72 to 1/87 scale), but true 25mm. They were approx the same size as contemporary Ral Partha or Grenadier figures of the era.

Nice detail, though the poses are rather wooden. For the time though, they were great. The only other gripe I have about them compared to modern minis is that they are Movie Klingons; I much prefer Next Gen Klingons from a looks standpoint (beefier, more muscular, with larger/more detailed head bumpies…).

Damon.

QUESTION: Are the FASA Klingons in the very first link similar in height to this TNG set (Last Unicorn's "Federation Away Team")?

CC,

No the FASA figures are much smaller than the Last Unicorn figures.

mrwigglesworth29 May 2007 8:39 p.m. PST

This one is the prototype from ADB if they ever get the 28mm line moving.

When you guys say "recasts" I'm thinking the legitimate casting of figures using the original molds (Like Marx "Recasts", basically new figures from old molds). I thought "Cloning" ( the casting of figures based on a mold made from a cast) is what some of you are implying.???

Second, while "cloning" of figures seems to be nefarious and downright illegal, what are the moral implications of buying clones where: The manufacturer is no longer in business,,,,the molds are no longer in use or in existence,,,the figures are entirely and probably forever unavailable to the consumer AND said clones are being bought for personal gaming use and not for profit, ie: resale or counterfeiting as an original for colleting purposes???? Yeah, I know what Jesus would say (well I don't "Know", I am guessing) but what are y'alls thoughts?
