I know I saw that thread a while back, and always wanted to know how that conversion project turned out.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

I do seem to remember some initial progress. Was there a successful outcome of it all?

Maybe if I knew what sort of GW goblins he was using, I might be able to do a better TMP title search.

If I simply search for "goblins" I'll get pages and pages. If I search for "jawas" I get nothing.

I think it was me. I ended up with something a little different to Jawas and I was prompted to call them Gowachin:

They are based on the plastic Night Goblins and I have armed them with Bohkin weapons and hockey sticks (from Hasslefree miniatures). I haven't painted any yet as I have moved on to other projects. Here's a tutorial in two parts:

I hope that is what you were after.

Great faces, well done!

Insomniac,

It was you!!! Very nice.

How did you scoop out the faces without burning the plastic? How slow was the Dremmel setting?

Also, how many poses come in the Goblin sprue?

Wow, those are great!

Ok. Found a photo of the sprue:

Are there 3 body poses/variants?

I may try something like this but, in my case, I'll make some scifi reptilians of my own.

I don't have a Dremmel, I have an old hobby drill which is effectively a motor with a switch and a chuck. I kept the speed low by squeezing the chuck a bit with my fingers!

There are about 3 or 4 poses but you can vary the poses by adjusting the angles of the faces and the positioning of the arms.

I trimmed the tops off the Night Goblin hoods to take away the Goblinyness a bit.

If you do reptiles, I would suggest long snouts (like crocodiles)…I think they would look cool.

Fantastic tips. Thanks Insomniac!

By the way . . .

Are there any photos of what a Jawa face actually looked like?

Here are a couple of additional images of the sprue:

How about Skink faces, like these?

Do you think they would be the right size? I don't know how big those goblin bodies are.

With a little bit of shaving, I think that the skink faces would fit just fine.

Thanks. I think I will give it a try.

Insomniac,

Any further progress with this project?

Thanks.

PS. I see that GW blocked the direct link. Well, here are a couple of pictures of the sprue:

Not very much I'm afraid.

I think that ten of them have weapons but the rest are still unarmed.

They are still on the to-do list…just not very high.

Please do let us know when you get back to them. So far, they look great!

Thanks.

Insomniac,

I was considering ordering the Goblins, but opted for this instead:

Those Pendraken "Night Orcs" stand about 13-15mm in height. I was thinking of turning their spears into staff weapons of sorts.

What do you think? Would they work as "Jawas" for 28mm gaming?

Thanks.

Insomniac23 Jul 2009 9:54 a.m. PST

I think the shields would need to go. Also, the staff weapons aren't necessarily very Jawa…but they could work with a few small conversions.

Cacique Caribe23 Jul 2009 9:59 a.m. PST

The shields would definitely need to go.

But that's the advantage of a cloaked figure . . . you can have the cloak cover a lot, or they can become other baggage or equipment with a little putty.

As for staff weapons not being very Jawa, I am actually going after the general Jawa "look" – smallish, hooded, desert dwellers.
