Are those names ever mentioned in the "Predator" films (maybe the expanded versions)?

Or were those names used in the literature only?

Only in the pulp books I have read

I dont think the predator is ever named in either film.

Interesting.

I don't recall them ever named in the films either, unless it is mentioned in one of the extended versions.

Back when there was a Predator gaming group on Yahoo, I sort of remember a few of the members using the name "Yautja".

The only 'name' I remember was in the first film, where the captured woman refers to it by a Spanish name (which I don't recall off the top of my head) as a 'demon that makes trophies of men' or some such thing.

Kenn,

This is what the girl called it: "el demonio, cazador de trofeos", which means "the trophy-hunting demon".

They proobably just call him Bob on his homeworld.

No real way to introduce the name of the species into the films as the Predators dont really introduce themselves.

I think the name was mentioned in the predator books with the human who was recruited into a predator clan but I cant remember the name.

CC – Ahhh…groovy. Thank you! I have to try to remember that…

In the Predator books by Steve Perry, they call themselves the Yautja.

We never do get an idea what they call themselves in the movie, although both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover independently name them "…one… ugly…. motherf&%$er…"

lol, that link lowtardog, I wonder where they're getting their information:

"Impervious to heat (boiling water gets uncomfortable after five minutes), invulnerable to electricity and to radiation.
They are fast enough to dodge bullets, if they see them coming and can, because of their tough hides, shrug off most small-calliber bullets.
They have no use for magic, and find it disdainful. Only cowards would resort to parlor tricks. "

those three lines cracked me up

"Yautja" survivies the Google test, as the first three pages (at least) of a search for that word are all Predator references.

Sargonarhes08 May 2007 2:49 p.m. PST

It's been the Yautja ever since Dark Horse comics got 20th Century's ok to do the first Aliens vs. Predator comic. The Steve Perry novel came later.

And then this idiot John Shirley writes Forever Midnight and it's painfully clear he didn't do his homework on what has already been done with the Hish-qu-Ten… sorry the Yautja.

I would ban John from ever writing sci-fi again for his error.

Yautja is the name used in the earlier AvP comics and novels published by Dark Horse, so that should be the original.

I read a novel and kind of liked it, as it as it was intended for train/beach-reading.

But everything with the AvP license is hideously formulaic, predictable and boring after the first few issues/chapters.

I'm pretty sure Danny Glover had a name for them in P2.

For a funny twist scenario (Predator vs Uruk-Hai):

MORNING ALL (MY TIME)!

my sci-fi troopers have a name for "PREDATORS"; they refer to them as "BUFFS!", which is an acronym for " BIG UGLY FIGHTIN' Bleeped text**S!" . . .

SOOO in my gaming universe when some body yells out "BUFFS on our six!" they are not referring to "buffed" humans but extremely dangerous sentient ETAs . . .

I don't know how accurate this is, but here's one description on the height of Predator aliens ("Yautja"):

"The Yautja are larger and taller than adult humans, standing at least seven feet (2-2.5 meters) tall but often much taller. Females . . . are even larger (and stronger). The female Yautja are known occasionally to throw their mates during moments of passion.
An average Yautja weighs between 250-350 lb, most of this is pure muscle. The Yautja have very little body fat due to their predatory lifestyle and diet."
