I recently placed an order with a manufacturer not yet set up for standard PayPal payments. He suggested using a PayPal virtual credit card (which was absolutely new to me).

To make a long story short, the transaction worked like a charm.

I will no longer allow no-PayPal manufacturers or distributors to keep me from purchasing online.

Very nice indeed!

Interesting…what is a Paypal virtual credit card, or more importantly how does it work?

Huscarle,

First of all, this is different from the PayPal Plus or PayPal Debit Card.

Once you sign on to your PayPal account, look at the column on the left. Under "Enhance Account" is a list of options, the last of which is "Virtual Debit Card".

After you click, this is the information that it offers . . .

-------------------------------

Introducing the PayPal Virtual Debit Card – Beta
Concerned about giving out your credit or debit card number online? Wish you could use PayPal in more places?

The answer is here: Download the new PayPal Virtual Debit Card. It generates a virtual card number every time you shop, everywhere you shop – so you never have to give out your credit or debit card number again!

You get all the convenience and security of PayPal, with a special advantage: Now, you can pay with PayPal anywhere MasterCard® is accepted online.

Check out all the benefits:
* Fraud Site Alert: Warns you if you land on known or potentially fraudulent websites.
* Privacy and 100% Protection: Financial information you provide is never shared with any merchant. And you get 100% protection against unauthorized payments sent from your account.
* Faster checkout: The Form Fill feature automatically completes shipping and billing details.
The PayPal Virtual Debit Card (Beta). You won't want to shop without it! Take the tour or go to Frequently Asked Questions or User Agreement.

Thank you for the info! This is a VERY interesting option…

MMitchell,

I've only had to use it once. But it beats having to use our joint credit cards (and explain to the wife), when I still have a nice "slush fund" available at my PayPal account. :)

PS. This should not be construed as a suggestion or encouragement for spouses to set up and maintain slush funds from their mates. I will not be held responsible for marital problems and/or divorces resulting from such actions by other individuals . . . :)

Once installed, and when you are ready to pay, you just click on the "P" (PayPal Virtual Card) icon at the bottom of your screen and generate a card number.

I just ordered a few of the Victory Force Spacefarers using this method.

Like before, this time it worked like a charm.

I don't get it. Now the Virtual Credit Card option doesn't even show on PayPal.
