I detach the wooden bases. I use Low Twmp. Hot Glue to secure the tree's wire trunk to an MDF bases, creating a lower sloped mound holding the tree trunk to the base. Hot Glue accepts acrylic paint w/o primer. Molten Hot Glue hardens in <2 minutes. Cheers!

Is it hard to detach the bases?

No. Grip the tree's wire trunk with needle nose pliers, then twist and pull the base. They usually come off easily.

Hot Glue is one of my favorite tools to use in modeling for my miniatures gaming hobbies. It is versatile, quick hardening, sculptable with the gun's tip, and paintable. It's incredible for so many applications. Cheers!
