As an alternative to spackling, I would suggest using Low Temperature Hot Glue. It cures relatively fast (1-2 minutes), it is fairly easy to clean up (careful not to burn your fingers!), and it bonds to most materials -- even LDPE/HDPE plastics, which are exceptionally difficult to get anything to adhere to! I used Low Temp Hot Glue to make flight stands for my Safari, Ltd. Fruit Bats ridden by Goblins. Here are some photos of my process which are self-explanatory. Cheers! |

I have a mini hot glue gun, but I've never used it. I noticed that you seemed to place the pin first, then apply the hot glue. Was there a reason not to apply the glue first, then stick the pin into the glue? Can the hot glue, once dried, be filed or sanded to get a more gentle slope? |

Whether you apply the pin first, or the, doesn't matter. What does mateer is that you secure the pin in proper position before the Hot Glue hardens. Hardened Hot Glue can be sculpted with a sharp Exacto blade, a small saw, or you could file it. Personally, I prefer to shape it in application and then sculpt it with the tip of the Glue Gun. It is not terribly hard to learn. Cheers! |
