I'm trying to figure out "which version" of the BMP this "FO vehicle" is supposed to be.
The BMP 1973 (PRP-3, and PRP-4) has turrets that do not have the 73mm gun.
What did the box identify the vehicle as?

Oh wait…it's Battlefront….sigh…never mind….

I don't think there's a specific model for the 'artillery reconnaissance' variant. They just use the standard BMP model in their catalog.

Nor do I know if a 'regular' BMP-1 would have been used as an artillery observer vehicle.

No. A standard regular BMP-1 would not have been used as one, due to the fact that being an infantry carrier it didn't have A: The radios
B: Fire System Observing and Reporting Equipment.
C: Trained F.O. Personnel.

One of the things I liked about QRF before they went through their continuing wheel of problems was that they offered 15mm SOV/WARPAC vehicles such at the PRP-3 and 4…You could tell on the table, and it made a difference in how you played your setups. Last thing you needed or wanted was to have your F.O. lit up in the first 1-2 turns.

Hmmm… guess I'm in the market for a 'proper' vehicle in 15mm or 1:100, then. grin

Yes an Arty Bn would have a PRP series vehicles sometimes 2 and on one image a PRP-3 and a PRP-4. An OP vehicle would generally be less clean than any other to allow it to hide quickly.

Tally Ho!
