This model recently came to my workbench for an update:
This figure was painted for TMP by Vanth SpiritWalker of Warcolours Painting Studio, and was featured here in 2008. It is The Damned from the Devout faction in Chronopia, and is long out of production.
The problem I had is that during play, people tend to accidentally touch the flail, causing it to fall off (even though it is pinned to the rod). So I put the figure on a larger base, as you can see above.
When I reattached the flail, I decided to put it at a angle, to make it look more dynamic.
The new 50mm-square LITKO 3mm wooden base is an improvement, but the flail still sticks over the edge. Perhaps a wider base would have been wiser?
There is a texture under the bottom of the model, which I suppose could be painted as flames or tall grass. The original painter interpreted them as flames, and painted the base black as if it was burned.
I didn't think that approach would work well on a larger base. Instead, I flocked the base to match a standard tabletop, but left the flames as originally painted.
With a professionally painted model, I am always hesitant to make any changes. If you owned the Mona Lisa, would that give you the right to 'improve' the art? So I thought about adding an oily wash to the flail, but chickened out. I made no changes to the paint job.
Here the model is shown with a 28mm fantasy figure, to provide a sense of scale.
