My old 15mm Amazon army went to the Philippines for the staff to use, so what to do? Create an even larger Amazon army, of course!
Once more, I used the wonderful figures from the Armies of Arcana range, now sold by Lone Gunman Games. The previous army had a 'white' theme, and the new army has a 'red' theme.
The painting this time was done by our friends at Old Guard Painters. I ship my figures direct to them in Ukraine, but you can also ship to their American agent if you prefer (and then he ships them to Ukraine).
My preference is to let the painters handle the painting, ship the painted figures back to me, and I handle the basing. This model was a bit big for the standard Mighty Armies infantry base, so I went with the cavalry/monster-size base (2" square). All bases in the army will be edged with red to make it easy for novice players to recognize which bases belong to which army.
This model which I'm showing today combines A010 Amazon Princess Mounted with M002 Griffin from the monsters part of the range. The shield has an engraved pattern, which is painted black and white with golden rim. The painting service has posed the wings vertically, which I think looks great; on the manufacturer's website, there are two more examples where the wings have been posed with more of an angle and/or bend to them, so you've got options.
Using a single model on the large base emphasizes that this is a commander. Alternately, I could have used an Amazon Mounted Warrior with another Griffin to provide a wingmate on the same base.
