We profiled the wrecked Meteor when the Carnage 2 kickstarter from Steve Jackson Games was underway, and now I've painted the sample car wreck.

Wrecked Meteor

This was an easy project, and some basic painting techniques produce a presentable result.

Wrecked Meteor

I wanted to create a 'wrecked and burned' look, so I started by priming the model with matte black spray paint.

I then drybrushed the model with white, to create highlights and shadows, and followed this with red, using a craft paint that had some translucency to it. (See, those cheap paints are good for something!)

Wrecked Meteor

I drybrushed the exposed metal and weapons with oily steel, highlighted sparingly with a silver permanent marker. The tires were painted gray. I painted the rear missile white.

I wasn't sure what to do with the glass fragments, but tried painting them grey with light grey highlights, and that seemed to work. I finished by giving the model a wash of black ink.

Wrecked Meteor

I took a LITKO 3mm 1.5" x 3" wooden base, primed it black on both sides, then flocked it with black sand and sealed it with matte clear spray. I then glued the model to the base, and again sealed with matte clear spray. I used the Chalked brand of matte clear, designed for craft blackboards, but it seems not to be as matte as it used to be – this looks more like a satin finish.

This model will make a nice wreck at the side of your car-combat road or arena, or possibly a hazard that gets pushed onto the track after a few laps. Or, if you buy the Meteor, then this gives you the wrecked version.
