RECENT BATTLE REPORTS

Daring raid on a heavily protected space station. I succeeded in sneaking in a destroyer with 2 long range hitting gunboats with a very meager escort. After a heavy fight 3/4 of the defending ships were out, my escorts were halved and my destroyer was badly mauled. But the most important part; the space station was still allive (damn) I had to run as reinforcements would arrive soon. I managed to limp away with the expensive destroyer (phew) and I could rescue all ejected crew. I was driven off but my enemies paid a high price: many fighters destroyen and crew killed as they bravely defended the station and worse the station was hit hard, very hard. Probably 60% of the facilities were destroyed. We are playing a campaign and that damage will be very expensive and difficult to repair. A second fleet of mine is already gathering to finish the job now he is weak..... [04 Nov 1999]

Silent Death fleet battle as part of a home-grown campaign. Played on a ping pong table with over 300 ships [03 Nov 1999]

There I was with the rest of the Espan Reserve unit #127 "Dirtfarmers" patroling the fringes of our territory. We tore into those Kashmeri rats like a vrak worm on brreg rice. Our meager force of 4x Blood Hawks, 4x Stingers, 4x Saucer Shuttles keyed their attack pattern's by slotting in around our primary elements 2x Kosmos and 2x Stratta. No doubt we were out-gunned, we lined up against an impressive Kashmere force including 4x Helbenders, 4x Maruts a Varuna a dredded Black Widow, and who knows what else? Anyway, the whole assault was a calvacade of ineptitude. Don't get me wrong, the tactics we sound but nobody could hit anything, not even the Black Widow. Odds are the Kashmere would have comeout on top, if he had takent he time to think about it, but the battlefield does not give a man that time so he left the field in defeat. In all honesty, if they had not turned tail and fled it may have ground down to a tie, or those Kashmeri punks may have pulled it out. [03 Nov 1999]

At now I am playing with Starblazer/Battlefleet Gothic miniatures using Starmada rules. Nice miniatures, great and simple rules! [02 Aug 1999]

I played Starmada about a month ago. I had a 500pt size fleet of Arcturan Federation ships, including one Seraphin Class Battlecarrier. A 3-sides battle ensued between friends.

The Arcturan fighters were able to create aerospace superiority, but could not stop the shields 5 transports of the Sssk (a lizard race with boarding parties). The two Ssk transports launched pods which penetrated the fighter defense screens and boarded the ship. I lost one of the escort frigates in a duel with an Imperial Invincible. However the Seraphin was able to diable the two lead imperial vessels with its ion cannons. Easy pickings for the anti-matter beams :)

I would have won the battle except for the valiant, but futile efforts of the crew to fend off the boarding parties. The seraphin was a ship designed from a more peaceful time with greater range weapons. Too bad they could not learn the lessons from Rome and Carthage. The Carthaginians might have won the Cold War. A past game of Full Thrust (2nd edition) took place around an unnamed planet, smack in the middle of two nebulas. My opponent and I chose 1000 point fleets, and set course to engage. My tactics were to overwhelm him with fighter squadrons; he concentrated on missiles and larger ships. Several turns later, I had missed with too many torpedoes, and he had destroyed the engines on an otherwise undamaged heavy cruiser with a well-timed pair of needle missiles. I finally conceded when his point defense batteries eliminated my last effective fighter squadron, and my lone carrier was about to appear around the planet in front of his 2 relatively unscathed cap. ships. Next time, I'll make sure to use torpedo fighters that can actually damage a ship through multiple layers of screens. Or maybe his missiles are the way to go... [27 Apr 99]

I made myself felt against the enemy, a mixed babylon 5 wars fleet against home brew shadows. However unexpected reineforcements allowed him to turn the tide of battle to his favor. [20 Apr 99]

We had a battle of two battlecruisers on 8 destroyers in a playtest for "Exordium Tactical". The chief designer managed to pilot one of his battlecruisers into a planet, and the destroyers were able to quickly put an end to the rampaging ruptors of the surviving BC. [19 Apr 99]

Been Playing Star Blazers Fleet Battle System. A great game that's a lot of fun. [11 Apr 99]

Finally got my official NeuSwabian League superdreadnought assembled and painted and justHAD to play with it.

If I remember correctly my battle squadron (SDN and BB) took on Barry's green HCs and DN in a slugging match while my DDGs and LCs

tried swinging around the flank to pound him with missile salvoes. My BB and SDN survived but heavily damaged by a torpedo bomber attack, but I only lost a couple of DDs, whereas he lost a BB and a couple of HCs which ate a couple of good vollies of missiles (plus close range pounding from my SDN, :^) [10 Apr 99]

Last game I played was an ecounter between earth and minbari in Babylon 5 Wars. 6 earth cruisers got slaughtered by 3 minbari sharlin cuisers. Was not a good day for me :( [31 Mar 99]

I presume this is talking about my last match at b5Wars? (if not skip the battlerep to the thingie below) Well, my last game was Earth Alliance vs Narn. It is still unfinished. I had a Nova Dreadnougth, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 2 Olympus Corvettes, 1 Oracle Scout Cruiser with 18 StarFuries and 18 Thunderbolts (a lot of these ships are unoffical and as of yet unpublished, some versions or rules I used are now overruled by newer updates) vs 2 Bintak Dreadnoughts w/36 Frazi and 2 G'Qoun Heavy Cruisers w/24 Gorith. We did about 4 turns, mainly the fighters clashed with heavy losses on both sides, I have 7 fighters remaining while he still has about 20. My Nova has taken some damage, mainly to weapon systems, it fired split it's fire of medium lasers against both Bintaks causing substantial damage. Subsequent missle fire and pulse fire from an Olympus and a Hyperion finished off one Bintak. One G'Qoun is missing nearly it's front side while another is mint. My Oracle bit it from Frazi and warship attacks and one of my Hyperions is severely damaged after being hit by a Mag Gun from the now dead Bintak (the other Bintak has lost it's Mag Gun btw). Currently, we are waiting for a time we can finish it. Both sides are going to swing about and make passes against one another again. Personally, I believe EA(me) is winning the ship battle while the Narns are doing well on the fighter side of things. We will have to wait and see what happens. As for B5 Wars itself. I find it a very enjoyable and MAINLY reflective of the show. The minatures are decent, although I have not had great access to them due to the fact the stores in town dont carry them or have problems with minature aquirement. Some things are ommitted such as the manueverability of the StarFury or the Grav Deck on the Omega. Overall, I very much like the game. More so than Battlespace (Which I notice is not on your list (it's the space fleet portion of battletech)). The game is fairly complex and yet fun to play. Not only that, but the rules arent turned obsolete every five months and everything is fairly affordable (unlike Games Workshop). Most importantly, AoG has good customer relations (there is a emailing list in which they actively answer questions) and so forth the suppliments (or what I have heard of them) simply add flavour and options. As opposed to games where every successive suppliment has some great new weapon or ship that makes every previous ship not worth playing. [30 Mar 99]

It was a full Trust game based on our Nazi's in Space idea. Rocket ships look more like something out of the old buck rodgers/flash gordon films and a lot of daft stuff. I think in our last battle ReichsAdmiral Goering (great-grandson) beat Admiral Kennedy (the Hero of Dallas) in a close fight for the Pluto Waffen-ss colony !Told you it was mad ! [30 Mar 99]

Full Thrust, using rules from the Fleet Book. A much faster game than we had expected, and very entertaining. [29 Mar 99]

Mike K

The Last game I played was Mekton Z in a invasion of a city scenario, onboard a space station, we kludged up rules for going through airlocks and we had a space fight/ building to building city fight, all in one game. [28 Mar 99]

FULL THRUST using Fleet Book Rules. 1000 pts meeting engagement between the Eurasian Solar Union and the Neu Swabian League. The ESU triumphed over the NSL, destroying all the NSL ships including a superdreadnought. The ESU fleet took heavy damage, however, including the loss of its battleship. The two surviving ESU cruisers were left relatively untouched. [28 Mar 99]

Full Thrust - 7-8 models aside. Made up navies, and I won!! [27 Mar 99]

Paul O'Connor

Been awhile since we played. A big FSE/NAC Full Thrust fleet battle. Still can't figure how to offset those FSE missiles. Intend to put together some more focused scenarios later this year. Full Thrust is a terrific game, and deserves to be played more often. That we've been away from it for so long speaks more to the lack of time in my gang's gaming life than it does of the quality of FT -- this is a game that everyone wants to play again. [26 Mar 99]
