RECENT BATTLE REPORTS

It was a Sunrunners versus ASP fight, and much to much my enemies' surprise, I flew my ASP fleet right up his middle and blew away his big guys.

I was having a rough time of it, but it actually looked like I had a chance to win, but we declared it a draw. [03 Nov 1999]

StarFleet Battles. 2 Constellation Class cruisers vs 2 Klingon D7's, upgraded with missile packs. A few asteroids for terrain (10..all moving 1 hex per turn in the same direction). The two Federation ships concentrated their fire on one D7 until it exploded. The other then left rather quickly. I like the detail of the game, but many ships in an action slows the game down greatly. Its also hard to get a "kill", since a badly hurt ship can usually get up enough speed to get off board. David "Inky" Scott

Babylon 5 Wars. Fairly simple teaching scenario for a public demonstration. Narn raiding party vs. a small Centauri supply convoy. Nothing fancy, no special ships. The Centauri took heavy losses but managed to move to the edge of the map (defense perimeter). [20 Apr 99]

The last game I played was a six-way Full Thrust game pitting the forces of the NSL/OUDF against the might of the might of the ESU/FSE. The game was fun for all involved as we had small ships fighting to the bitter end, while much larger ships we "striking the colours" after only minor damage. Those smaller crew sure are brave! The highlight of the game was when our ESU Dreadnought came into range of the OUDF Heavy Cruiser. The cruiser fired a missile volley and then opened up with all the other weaponry it could. In the end, our brand-new Dreadnought had been reduced to a smoking hulk, with the threat of a reactor core breach and the crew running to the life-pods. A victory to the ESU in the end, but very, very close (only 2 ships left per side, out of a total of forty!). [15 Apr 99]

I played Starmada with my friends at the local game store. We like Starmada for its simplicity, yet fun. Consider me a reformed Star Fleet Battles player - don't like games with too many rules. [10 Apr 99]

My last SF starship combat game was a B5 scenario I ran at our local club, set during the Narn-Centauri war and using the TBP variant of the Full Thrust rules. An EarthForce squadron was recovering a covert science team from a system in a backwater near the Narn-Centauri border (unspecified research was going on). A nasty three-way action ensued which saw the Earthers getting away largely undamagedbut with the CO of one of the cruisers facing a court martial for opening fire contrary to orders. [2 Apr 99]

Alexander Kettle

My last game involved a playtest of B5W, flying EA dreadnoughts against a mixed force of Non-ALigned worlds ships, slaughtering equal sized forces of Hyach and Cascor ships in a close range slug fest...gruesome. [1 Apr 99]

Heh. We (CEGA BG69) ran down a "renegade" venusian convoy. Turned out their Ryus aren't THAT advanced....

Jovian Chronicles is the greatest b/c the limitless possibilites in vehicle construction and the fast-playing, yet "realistic" tactical system. 3D vectored space combat, plus it interlocks perfectly w/surface and skirmish scale... [29 Mar 99]

Using Star Wars based vessels and Silent Death rules an Alliance fighter force overwhelmed the fighter escorts of a Star Destroyer (represented as an escort class ship) which they then destroyed with a mass torpedoe launch. The Star Destroyer commander was, shall we say, more than a little surprised. [28 Mar 99]

Jovian Chronicles: 4 Jovian Exo-Armor Pathfinders vs. 4 CEGA Wyverns 1 Jovian Thunderbolt 1 CEGA Hachiman 2 Jovian Lancers 2 CEGA Wraiths Meeting engagement, CEGA force closed while the Jovian force split into 3 units, 2 sets of 2 Pathfinders and 1 Lancer with the Thunderbolt in the middle. The Wraiths and the Hachiman closed with the Thunderbolt and 2 pairs of Wyvern split to engage the Jovian flights. In short, the Thunderbolt was sunk, but the Wyverns were destroyed. The Wraiths escaped, but the Hachiman was sunk by the remaining two Pathfinders and two Lancers. [28 Mar 99]

Last game was very small, and a while back...two destroyer squadrons, each of 4-6 vessels, plus a large freighter for one side to convoy. sort of a pirate/raider attack. Next game is this coming sunday, with luck. My first time with the newish Fleet Book updated rules! [27 Mar 99]

Jon Mollison

Six sided, 200pt Silent Death death match. Taught three miniature novices to play in under fifteen minutes. As usual, the cowards who stayed out of the fray picked off the bloodied sluggers for a cherry pick win. [27 Mar 99]

Full thrust: Kra'Vak vs NAC. Kra'Vak defeated the NAC (Human) in a close run battle using house movement and fire sequence rules. [26 Mar 99]

Lawrence Lee

Battle Station Assault - A Klingon D7C, F5lL and Lyran CL attack a Federation base defended with a monitor. A mistake on my (Federation) part leaves the base destroyed and the monitor untouched while the Klingon force is crippled. Kept the monitor too far back...should have let it take a few hits. [26 Mar 99]

Kent McClure

Full Thrust game Basically a UN sponsored meeting of warring nations that was interrupted by an approaching Kra'vak fleet. I played the FSE commander with an appropriate French attitude including letting everybody else get beat up by the Kra'vak, pick off the Kra'vak stragglers, and declared myself to be the hero of the battle as a result. [26 Mar 99]

A B5 Wars campaign battle, between the Earth and Minbari. Earth won a minor tactical victory causing significant damage to multiple Minbari ships, but was unable to follow up as they were overextended and could not exploit the Minbari losses. [26 Mar 99]

Tom McCarthy

The last game I took part in was actually more of a demonstration. I supplied the ships and taught the rules for 4 players to learn Full Thrust. This was approximately 4000 pts a side of NAC vs. Sa'Vasku. My last game as a player would have been in Keith Watts' Solar Thrust game at the Ground Zero Games East Coast Convention.

I expect some players will be updating their initial reports after Battlefleet Gothic becomes available. One thing you might want to look at (though it goes against the grain of the page) is whether people are playing by e-mail due to lack of local competition. Also, you might want to distinguish between last game played and last game GMed. I'm slowly assembling a Superior miniatures fleet. My mad friend Jim has even more obscure stuff. [26 Mar 99]

Drew Losos

A meeting engagement fleet battle between the New Anglian Confederation and the European Solar Union, playing Full Thrust. I won :) (New Anglians). [26 Mar 99]

Babylon 5 Wars: Earth Civil War Battle:

Loyalist Forces: 3 Omega Destroyers, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 12 flights of Thunderbolt Fighters, 2 Flights of Starfury Fighters: 10,632 points

Rebel Forces: 1 Omega Destroyer, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 4 flights of Thunderbolt Fighter, 2 Flights of Starfury Fighters, 4 Whitestars: 9860 Points Table size: 6'x 8' Set up: Opposite corners

House rules in play: All variable damage weapons do max damage (no dice rolls). This game was played during our weekly Wednesday nite sessions and we use this house rule when we play on weeknites as it speeds the game enough to allow us to finish. Opening Speeds: Loyalist Forces: Omegas and Hyperions, speed 6. Fighters, speed 18. Rebel Forces: Omega and Hyperions, speed 6. Fighters and Whitestars, speed 18. Turn 1:

The opposing capital ships began to slowly close the distance at speed 6. The Loyalist fighters jumped out towards the opposing cap ships as the Rebel Whitestars and fighters began a flanking maneuver to the right. No fire this turn. Turn 2:

Cap ships of both sides continued to move towards each other this turn, still well out of range of one another. The Rebel fighters and Whitestars continued their flanking maneuver as half the Loyalist fighters turned off to intercept them. No fire. Turn 3:

Cap ships continue their methodical plod towards each other (EA ships truly are flying bathtubs!)...ending range at about 64". The Rebel fighters and Whitestars slow to speed 12 as the Loyalist fighters close with them...heavy fire is exchanged with both sides losing some fighters and the Whitestars taking minor damage. Two Whitestars manage to get off Molecular Pulsar shots at flights of Loyalist fighters, shredding them. Turn 4:

The cap ships continue to close. Half the Loyalist fighters close on the Rebel Omega and Hyperions. One Hyperion is ripped badly by the fighters. The other and the Omega take minor damage. The return fire rips up four flights of Thunderbolts. The Whitestars close to close range (12" or so) from the Loyalist cap ships, managing to stay in the side arcs and out of the primary weapons arcs of fire...Two Whitestars target Omega 1 and the other two target Omega 2. Both Omegas are hit with two Improved Neutron lasers and MANY Molecular Pulsar hits...The two Loyalist Omegas are burning hulks at the end of the fire phase. The Rebel fighters close to point blank range with Hyperion 2 and rip it apart with combined fire. The remaining Loyalist fighters close on the Whitestars, destroying one and severely damaging a second.

At this point the Loyalist forces conceded, having lost 3 of their 5 capital ships and more than half of their fighter complement. The Rebel forces had lost half their fighters and one Whitestar destroyed with a second too damaged to continue effectively. The decision was a victory for the Rebel forces. [26 Mar 99]
