RECENT BATTLE REPORTS

I made myself felt against the enemy, a mixed babylon 5 wars fleet against home brew shadows. However unexpected reineforcements allowed him to turn the tide of battle to his favor. [20 Apr 99]

David "Inky" Scott

Babylon 5 Wars. Fairly simple teaching scenario for a public demonstration. Narn raiding party vs. a small Centauri supply convoy. Nothing fancy, no special ships. The Centauri took heavy losses but managed to move to the edge of the map (defense perimeter). [20 Apr 99]

Barry Beldam

Playtesting for a generic space combat ruleset a friend and I are working on. The Trinity Theocracy (me) vs silicon based beasties with a wierd idea of what ships should look like.

I ended up winning, destroying the last silicon ship by shooting it, ramming it, and finally boarding it and flushing the crew out into space. Great fun. [1 Apr 99]

Alexander Kettle

My last game involved a playtest of B5W, flying EA dreadnoughts against a mixed force of Non-ALigned worlds ships, slaughtering equal sized forces of Hyach and Cascor ships in a close range slug fest...gruesome. [1 Apr 99]

Basically, I was playing Babylon 5 wars, I took a Hyperion, Omega, and an Olympus against a Primus, a Centurion, a Darkner and a Vorchan. First round was basically movement, second round my Olympus battered the Centurion with some help from my Omega, the Hyperion opened on the Primus with a Heavy Laser. Centurion battered my Omega some with a good Battle Laser hit, and banged up my Olympus with laser and matter cannon fire(Olympus is a tough little ship)along with a laser fire from the Darkner. The Primus fired some Battle Lasers at my Hyperion but missed. We quit at that point due to time constraints. [31 Mar 99]

I played a battle Babylon 5 Wars with a friend where we fought it out with the heavy ships of the Earth Alliance and the Centauri. I had an Omega, Nova and a few fighters and he had a Octurion, Primus and several fighters. He eventually drove off my remaining surviving Omega with its aft section missing, because of bad rolls on my part and a poor decision to split my ships up. [31 Mar 99]

Last game I played was an ecounter between earth and minbari in Babylon 5 Wars. 6 earth cruisers got slaughtered by 3 minbari sharlin cuisers. Was not a good day for me :( [31 Mar 99]

Babylon 5 Wars: Playtest, Markab vs. Narn, 7500 pts. Narn Fleet: 2 T'Loth (Assault Carrier), 2 Var'Nic (LR Destroyer), 1 Bin'Tak (Dreadnought), 66 Frazi (Hvy. Fighters) Markab Fleet: 2 Shafab (Hvy. Cruiser), 2 Mafka (Transport Cruiser), 3 Martoba (Patrol Cruiser), 5 Romak (Escort Frigate), 42 Drofta (Med. Fighters) Synopsis: Martobas hang back, firing plasma waves against the BT and other caps, stripping their systems fairly quickly, while the other cap ships charge ahead, since they're armed w/ short-range weapons. The Romaks and Droftas kill Frazi exclusively, relying on the bigger ships to kill the Narn cap ships. The Narn focus their main force on the Romaks (which die incredibly easily) and Mafkas, due to the former's heavy antifighter defenses and the latter's plasma cannon. Markab fighters end up acting as interceptors rather than the assault fighters that they were supposed to be, but prove adequate at the role. Narn fighters, the key to the Narn strategy, are destroyed ruthlessly, but not before they deal heavy damage to the Romaks and Mafkas. End Result: Markab victory (all Narn fighters destroyed, all Narn ships crippled or destroyed); but 3 Romaks destroyed, all but 13 Drofta destroyed, 1 Shafab crippled, 1 Mafka crippled, 1 Mafka destroyed [31 Mar 99]

A Dilgar war playtest for Babylon 5 wars. Earthforce vs Dilgar. EF: 2 Hyperion, 2 Olympus, 12 Tiger Starfuries. DL: 1 Strike cruiser, 3 frigates, 24 fighters. Earthforce destroyed 2 Dilgar frigates for exchange of minor damage. Dilgar concede. [30 Mar 99]

I presume this is talking about my last match at b5Wars? (if not skip the battlerep to the thingie below) Well, my last game was Earth Alliance vs Narn. It is still unfinished. I had a Nova Dreadnougth, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 2 Olympus Corvettes, 1 Oracle Scout Cruiser with 18 StarFuries and 18 Thunderbolts (a lot of these ships are unoffical and as of yet unpublished, some versions or rules I used are now overruled by newer updates) vs 2 Bintak Dreadnoughts w/36 Frazi and 2 G'Qoun Heavy Cruisers w/24 Gorith. We did about 4 turns, mainly the fighters clashed with heavy losses on both sides, I have 7 fighters remaining while he still has about 20. My Nova has taken some damage, mainly to weapon systems, it fired split it's fire of medium lasers against both Bintaks causing substantial damage. Subsequent missle fire and pulse fire from an Olympus and a Hyperion finished off one Bintak. One G'Qoun is missing nearly it's front side while another is mint. My Oracle bit it from Frazi and warship attacks and one of my Hyperions is severely damaged after being hit by a Mag Gun from the now dead Bintak (the other Bintak has lost it's Mag Gun btw). Currently, we are waiting for a time we can finish it. Both sides are going to swing about and make passes against one another again. Personally, I believe EA(me) is winning the ship battle while the Narns are doing well on the fighter side of things. We will have to wait and see what happens. As for B5 Wars itself. I find it a very enjoyable and MAINLY reflective of the show. The minatures are decent, although I have not had great access to them due to the fact the stores in town dont carry them or have problems with minature aquirement. Some things are ommitted such as the manueverability of the StarFury or the Grav Deck on the Omega. Overall, I very much like the game. More so than Battlespace (Which I notice is not on your list (it's the space fleet portion of battletech)). The game is fairly complex and yet fun to play. Not only that, but the rules arent turned obsolete every five months and everything is fairly affordable (unlike Games Workshop). Most importantly, AoG has good customer relations (there is a emailing list in which they actively answer questions) and so forth the suppliments (or what I have heard of them) simply add flavour and options. As opposed to games where every successive suppliment has some great new weapon or ship that makes every previous ship not worth playing. [30 Mar 99]

Babylon 5, 3 earthforce destroyers vs, 3 centauri battleships. Over very quick centauris smashed to pulp. Nothing is cooler than ripping a ship a part with particle beams. [29 Mar 99]

Earth Aliance vs Non-Aligned
Babylon-5 Wars

Roughly 1850 pts each
Earth Alliance starting forces
2 Artemis frigates, 625pts apiece
1 Olympus corvette, 600pts

Non-Aligned
2 Brakiri Avoiki class Heavy Cruisers, 680pts apiece
1 Drazi sunhawk Battlecruiser, 500pts

Turn 1

EA
Artemis 1&2
went turtle with EW
speed 6

Olympus
went turtle with EW
speed 6

NA
Avoiki 1&2
went turtle with EW
Speed 12

Drazi Sunhawk
went turtle with EW
speed 10

Both fleets moved to engage. The Non-aligned player was trying to close the gap between the fleets. He didn't realise he had the range advantage with his Avoiki's -1/4 hexes with his Graviton beams

The EA player railguns on all three ships were -1/2 hexes and had to close. Turn 2 didn't see much more manuevering the Sunhawk swung out and slowed down. With the Avoikis continuing at great speed, no fire exchanged yet. EA just kept plugging on.

Turn 3

Avoikis sped past the the lighter Earth ships while the Drazi Sunhawk engaged the three EA ships. Artemis 1 didn't allocate any EW onto locking on to the sunhawk so didn't fire. Artemis 2 fired on the sunhawk and with rear weapons on Avoiki. Olympus fired on sunhawk, scoring a hit onto the C&C - killing the ship. More minor damage occured. Sunhawk fired on the Artemis, destroying 1 railgun and forward interceptor Avoiki recieved a destroyed rear Graviton pulsar and major damage to rear thruster

Turn 4

Avoikis flew off map. EA declined to pursue (couldn't catch them if I tried). NA decided next time would not close with EA ships and feels the Artemis rail frigates may be under-pointed. [27 Mar 99]

A B5 Wars campaign battle, between the Earth and Minbari. Earth won a minor tactical victory causing significant damage to multiple Minbari ships, but was unable to follow up as they were overextended and could not exploit the Minbari losses. [26 Mar 99]

Forces: Dilgar - 2 Targath Strike Cruisers 1 Protra Scoutship 2 Ochlavitwa Destroyers 1 Tratharti Gunship 48 Thorun Dartfighters (me) Hyach - 1 Urutha Kal Dreadnought 1 Irokai Kam Battlecruiser 1 Tachila Kor Scout Carrier 1 Senchlat Kes Attack Scout 1 Okath Kat Fast Frigate 25 Dartha Medium Fighters 5 Dovoch Interdict Fighters (2 friends) Period: Late War - all refits in place. We played all known 2E rules, except we didn't use called shots (for the Point Pulsar), as I think they skew the game. In the absence of 2E critical charts, we gave a +4 to critcal rolls caused by Masers (formerly known as Gamma Lasers). The Hyach are in close formation, except for the Okath Kat, which is split off with 2 flights of fighter for cover I have 2 groups: the Ochlavitas, and the Targaths and Tratharti. Each is supported by 4 flights of Thoruns. The Protra trailed behind. For the first three turns, everyone turtles heavily, and closes with no fire exchanged. Turn 3 The 2 Ochlavitas take the front off of the Senchlat Kes, 4 flights of Thoruns maul the Okath Kat, stripping 3 ML, and causing an Engine and a Reactor crit. The thoruns pay a heavy price as they lose 14 of their number to Darthas and Masers. Although about half of my flights are tasked with anti-fighter work, no Hyach fighters are lost (I _hate_ the chart). The Hyach ships hold their fire, mostly. Turn 4 Much fire exchanged, fleets at close range now. The wounded Senchlat kes is killed by Targath 1. The Irokai Kam loses it's fwd. section to the Tratharti and Targath 1, while a flight of Thoruns remove it's stbd. weapons. The Urutha Kal loses it's Spinal Laser to an Ochlavita at point blank range, also suffering moderate structural damage. The Okath Kat's suffering continues, taking another engine crit. , and a C&C crit.from fighters.the Tachila Kor recieves light damage from some Thoruns.Fighter combat is more even this turn, with the hyach losing 7 fighters to 6 Thoruns killed. The Hyach returned fire, killing Targath 2 with short-range hits from a Spinal Laser, and a Mega Plasma Cannon, plus lighter weapons (actually, it took enough damage to kill the facing structure, the primary structure, and the far side structure, with damage left over!).Targath 1 took heavy stbd. structure damage from the Okath Kat. Ochlavita 1 recieves a Spinal Laser hit at 1 hex range, but only loses it'd Main thrust, and some structure (!). Turn 5 Fighters continue hitting the Okath Kat, which loses 7 more power, and it's computer. The Tachila Kor is hit by the Tratharti and Targath 1, but is still mostly okay. Ochlavita 2 takes the main thrust off of the Urutha Kal. In return, Ochlavita 1 loses it's rear hull, Targath 1 loses it's stbd. side, and the Tratharti's rear is hanging by a thread. 15 Darthas and Dovochs remain, and 20 Thoruns. We had to call it here as it was midnight, and snowing, and 2 of us had a 1 1/2 hour drive home. It was a good game, the Dilgar had an edge, but the outcome was by no means assured. Lessons The Hyach should have opened fire at long range - it's their biggest advantage. Dartha / Dovoch flights are *vicious*, plus the ability to interdict a whole flight makes it very hard to hit ships protected by Dovochs with fighters, much less the flights themselves. I used to prefer the Tratharti to the Ochlavita, but as I play, this is changing - The Ochlavita has an impressive ability to get behind an enemy and stay there. One of my opponents mistook the "K" in tachila Kor for an "H", leading to a truly humiliating local sobriquet for this fine ship... . -Kle. [26 Mar 99]

Babylon 5 Wars: Earth Civil War Battle:

Loyalist Forces: 3 Omega Destroyers, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 12 flights of Thunderbolt Fighters, 2 Flights of Starfury Fighters: 10,632 points

Rebel Forces: 1 Omega Destroyer, 2 Hyperion Heavy Cruisers, 4 flights of Thunderbolt Fighter, 2 Flights of Starfury Fighters, 4 Whitestars: 9860 Points Table size: 6'x 8' Set up: Opposite corners

House rules in play: All variable damage weapons do max damage (no dice rolls). This game was played during our weekly Wednesday nite sessions and we use this house rule when we play on weeknites as it speeds the game enough to allow us to finish. Opening Speeds: Loyalist Forces: Omegas and Hyperions, speed 6. Fighters, speed 18. Rebel Forces: Omega and Hyperions, speed 6. Fighters and Whitestars, speed 18. Turn 1:

The opposing capital ships began to slowly close the distance at speed 6. The Loyalist fighters jumped out towards the opposing cap ships as the Rebel Whitestars and fighters began a flanking maneuver to the right. No fire this turn. Turn 2:

Cap ships of both sides continued to move towards each other this turn, still well out of range of one another. The Rebel fighters and Whitestars continued their flanking maneuver as half the Loyalist fighters turned off to intercept them. No fire. Turn 3:

Cap ships continue their methodical plod towards each other (EA ships truly are flying bathtubs!)...ending range at about 64". The Rebel fighters and Whitestars slow to speed 12 as the Loyalist fighters close with them...heavy fire is exchanged with both sides losing some fighters and the Whitestars taking minor damage. Two Whitestars manage to get off Molecular Pulsar shots at flights of Loyalist fighters, shredding them. Turn 4:

The cap ships continue to close. Half the Loyalist fighters close on the Rebel Omega and Hyperions. One Hyperion is ripped badly by the fighters. The other and the Omega take minor damage. The return fire rips up four flights of Thunderbolts. The Whitestars close to close range (12" or so) from the Loyalist cap ships, managing to stay in the side arcs and out of the primary weapons arcs of fire...Two Whitestars target Omega 1 and the other two target Omega 2. Both Omegas are hit with two Improved Neutron lasers and MANY Molecular Pulsar hits...The two Loyalist Omegas are burning hulks at the end of the fire phase. The Rebel fighters close to point blank range with Hyperion 2 and rip it apart with combined fire. The remaining Loyalist fighters close on the Whitestars, destroying one and severely damaging a second.

At this point the Loyalist forces conceded, having lost 3 of their 5 capital ships and more than half of their fighter complement. The Rebel forces had lost half their fighters and one Whitestar destroyed with a second too damaged to continue effectively. The decision was a victory for the Rebel forces. [26 Mar 99]

The last game we played was B5W (can't get people interested in any thing else). It was a small fleet battle no fighters, it was for the Dilgar playtest. It was six ships on six ships. Lots of death, destruction, and bad jokes. All in all a good time. [26 Mar 99]

Laurent Leclerc

A very large Babylon 5 Wars game in which 20k pts of Centauri units (9 Vorchans, 11 Darkners, 10 Maximus, 6 Mograths and 12 Havens) engaged a large Narn fleets of 17,5k pts (2 Bin'Tak, 1 Dag'Kar, 2 G'Quans, 4 Var'Nik, 11 Thentus and 96 Frazi) with the help of a Raiders forces (initialy 2 Battlewagons, 3 Sunhawks, 2 Sloop, 36 fighter and 1 Thentus) and a Centauri "watching task force" of 1 Centurion, 1 Maximus, 1 Vorchan, 6 Razik, 6 Sentri. The main raiders fleets was forced to flee when an EA pursuit fleet of 14k pts appeared a brief moment. All this time both fleet were closing on each other and firing intensivly. The Narn lost a Bin'Tak and a half when 6 Darkner engaged and destroyed the first and 5 other completly removed the front of the other. We stop this game after 5 turn and 18 hours, we would have needed another 12 or 18 hours to finish it. The Narn had lost 1 Bin'Tak, 1 Var'Nik, 1 Thentus and 53 Frazi while the Centauri had only lost a single Mograth. The Centauri player (myself and Nicolas Auclair-Tremblay) were going to win this game, but the Narn didn't want to accept capitulation. [26 Mar 99]
