I played Starmada about a month ago. I had a 500pt size fleet of Arcturan Federation ships, including one Seraphin Class Battlecarrier. A 3-sides battle ensued between friends. The Arcturan fighters were able to create aerospace superiority, but could not stop the shields 5 transports of the Sssk (a lizard race with boarding parties). The two Ssk transports launched pods which penetrated the fighter defense screens and boarded the ship. I lost one of the escort frigates in a duel with an Imperial Invincible. However the Seraphin was able to diable the two lead imperial vessels with its ion cannons. Easy pickings for the anti-matter beams :) I would have won the battle except for the valiant, but futile efforts of the crew to fend off the boarding parties. The seraphin was a ship designed from a more peaceful time with greater range weapons. Too bad they could not learn the lessons from Rome and Carthage. The Carthaginians might have won the Cold War. I played Starmada with my friends at the local game store. We like Starmada for its simplicity, yet fun. Consider me a reformed Star Fleet Battles player - don't like games with too many rules. [10 Apr 99] |

My latest games have all been PBEM. That is the great thing about Full Thrust, the simplicity of the game and the large online community means I can play even without anyone around. My last game was an enormous (many thousands of points) Full Thrust 2.5 (aka the Fleet Book Rules) game involving aliens of unknown powers versus a NAC fleet. I believe that we were pummeled. Starmada, almost a year ago. [30 Mar 99] |

A couple of friends play our first battle of BFG last Sunday with fiqure included in the box Imperial vs. Chaos, a classic battle. After a few close turns, the Chaos side won with heavy damage to both sides. When we quit 3 cripples and one smokin hulk on Imperial and 3 cripples and heavy damaged ship. In general, I like the system I think a few rules needed tweaking. The ships are cool. [30 Mar 99] |

It was a Jovian Chronicles game and was basically a re-enactment of the final battle in my campaign Trials of Prometheus. I ran it on my friends basement and used mock-up mini's for the various exo-armors. And various nick-nacks for ships and asteroids. It was 2D and was very fast paced game. role-playing aside the final battle was 4 hours out of the 10 we played! [28 Mar 99] |

A Full Thrust battle. A New Anglican Task force was shepherding a crippled dreadnaught to a repair base when it ran into a Federal Stats aggressor force ( who didn't know the dred was crippled ). Lots of close in work with FSE destroyers closing to pulse torpedo range of the dred, as the NAC & FSE battlecruisers duked it out. In the end, the NAC dred was dead in space, and 5 of their 9 escorts were destroyed. THe FSE lost 7 ships, including a battlecriuser. The remaining 4 ships left the table rather than try to stay and finish off the dred. [26 Mar 99] |

The last space game I played was a "Fly 'Til You Die" scenario for Silent Death at a local game store. I was doing rather well, having just upgraded my ship to a "Dolphin", when my so-called "friend" decided that, if he was going to lose (which he was), he was going to take me down with him. I spent the next five turns losing the initiative roll to my "friend", who proceeded to follow me around the starmap, taking pot shots at my behind. By the time someone rescued me (with the strategic application of a Mk. 50 torpedo... =), I had taken enough damage and wasted enough time that victory was no longer within my grasp. That's okay though; revenge can be a wonderful thing... =) [26 Mar 99] |
