I have played these rules and must admit I was not too impressed. Everything everyone said is true: fast play, easy to learn, etc... I just never got any feel that I was playing Napoleonics. Could have been Aztec or Starship Troopers. Inevitably, any attempt to make a game that plays in that scale (an admirable idea) must be vague. If these ambiguities are not a problem for you or your group, then these may be the rules for you. I very much like the idea of the large-scale game. We currently play Napoleons Battles. This is a set of rules that gets blamed for the exact same things that I accuse LePetite for. I guess it's just a matter of degrees. We came up playing all the 60:1 rules (of which I liked Battles for Empire best). I didn't feel the need for flank companies and skirmish flow charts. NB is our happy (if imperfect) medium. |
