4,000 pts of Khorne Chaos Warriors (me) vs. 5,000 pts of Lizardmen (no big characters). Scenerio was Plague Fleet of Chaos Warriors land in Lustria to attack the Temple of Urk-Nok and recover a lost Daemon bound by a Slann Mage Priest. Lizards came on in d3-1 units per turn, with 1,500 starting temple guard and asorted skinks. 6 turn game, started well for me but I was slow due to no calvary. By the time I was getting into combat the turns were against me and most of his army was deployed. The end result was I was "pushed back" by turn limits, we aggreed the entire city would have been alerted and enroute after the 6 turns. A fun game, but too much distance to cover on foot. We played on a 6'x10' table. First time here, no suggestions. Like that you view all games as playable and fun, I play WFB mostly due to proliferation, but Battle Storm and Battle System are both fun, too. [8 Nov 1999] |

My last game was an unnamed battle between Tsolyanu and Yan Kor during the great northern war. The Tsolyani deployed some fanatics (Legion of Red Devastation), some bowmen, some flying Hlaka scouts, an assortment of medium and heavy infantry, and 2,000 Ahoggya extra-heavy troops. The Yan Koryani deployed a larger number of medium and just 1,000 Shen as heavies. The Yan Koryani also had Hlaka. Both sides deployed skirmishers. Since the game was played without a referee, hiding behind terrain and cloaking magic etc. were not factors. I will not bore you with all the details but the Tsolyani won by deploying their Ahoggya effectively. The Ahoggya managed to avoid reduction by enemy archers and proved unstoppable against the Yan Koryani medium troops. The Yan Koryani never managed to use his superior numbers effectively to outflank the Tsolyani (he was constrained by terrain somewhat). Only the Shen might have stopped the Ahoggya, but they were on the opposite wing and it was all over by the time they could have neared. I noted two tactical points: 1) Wheeling and maneuvering is slow and elaborate machinations often do not pay off as much as careful attention to the opening set up. 2) Hlaka are very effective but you must avoid losing any since they break morale quite easily. Huge battle of 10,000 pts per side with 3 players a side. It was a WFB games with Chaos, Chaos Dwarves, and Beastmen verses Dwarf and empire. The good guys won (Chaos that is). [18 Sep 1999] |

A horde of demons had been terrorizing a local village, and the humans in the area had all fled. The demons were beginning evil rites to summon their master, when the scene was charged upon by the secretive newt-people of the nearby swamps. It was a medium sized battle using Clan Wars rules and all Warhammer miniatures. [15 Sep 1999] |

On the weekend of August 14, 1999 I played a game of Armies of Arcana with a man named Pat. We played at a store called Active Imagination in Albuquerque NM that is also owned by War Games West. We played a game of 4000pts a side. I played the Arabian knights while Pat played the Human Medievals. We played about a 6 turn game and the result was a close Arabian victory. My army list included: 22 carpet riders with a Sultan and a Air Wizard also on carpets, 3 units of about either 13 or 14 Calvalry with lances, two units of 20 eunuchs each with a sultan each, a Titan, and a Archer unit of about 20 to 30 models. I deployed the Arabian forces with a strong left flank while the medievals deployed evenly across the board with his wizard and artillery facing my strong left. This resulted in his heavy infantry being placed out of the game for the first few turns. The First turn I advanced down the left while he maneuvered his forces to my side of the board. My archer unit was destroyed from his archers and ballista fire. His flying demon advanced straight of the middle towards my army. The second turn my lancers adopted a skirmish formation and manuevered between some mediavel villages to destroy his wizard and artillery on that side of the board. In addition my 22 carpet riders and two characters on carpets engaged the demon resulting in a draw. The medievals manuevered a mounted bow unit to face my advance and maneuvered his Paladins and heavy mounted knights within a counter charge distance in case his mounted archers were charged. The next turn the Arabians won initiative. The Arabian Lancers charged the Medieval mounted archers that were in rank and file on his right flank resulting in his unit being hit hard and broken in the hand to hand phase. Unfortunately his Mounted Paladins and Heavy Calvalry hit my lancers that flanked his archers. Two units of my lancers were broken in this combat and his follow up to my rout resulted in all three of my lancer units being broken. Fortunately the Paladin follow up move landed them in hand to hand combat with my Eunuchs and my titan. This turn my carpet riders killed the demon. The next turn my carpets engaged his paladin unit which resulted in the Paladins beign surrounded from all three sides. In addition his heavy calvalry unit was moving at full speed to catch my routed lancer units but my other unit of eunuchs who covered my lancer retreat. In this combat phase the Paladins held their own against my three units but suffered heavy losses. My eunuchs that covered the lancer retreat stalemated with the heavy calvary but did significant casualites to each side. While this was occuring The medievals was maneuvering his infantry, archers, and heavy cannon onto the left side of the board where the action was. The last step of the moral turn resulted in two lancer units not rallying but with one rallied by the eunuch/Medieval heavy calvalry engagement. The next turn two broken lancer units ran off the board. My third rallied lancer unit joined the eunuch/heavy calvalry fight. This turn resulted in The medievals firing their archers into hand to hand combat. The combat results for this round were a success for the Arabians. The Titan, carpet riders, and eunuchs destroying the Paladins, which was tough since they kept making their morale rolls and resulted in me having to kill every single one of them. Unfortunately I took heavy casualties from the Paladins. The other engagement of enuchs/lancers against the Medieval Heavy calvalry resulted in a rout and destruction of the Medieval Calvalry. The end of this turn left the Medievals with a Heavy Pikeman unit, Heavy footman unit, a longbow archer unit, and a heavy cannon. The arabians had about a total of 12 eunuchs between two units and their sultans, about 15 carpet riders with their sultan and wizard, a wounded titan at half strength, and a lancer unit of about 8 guys. The rest of the game was me using my wizard flying between scenery casting offensive spells on the units while my titan through lightening bolts at them. From this experience I recommend using the Air wizard first level spell spark to attack enemy cannons not there crew. After destroying the cannon, I used the Lightening Storm Level 3 Air spell to attack the Heavy infantry while the eunuchs, lancers, and titan engaged the pike men. Even at this time I still almost lost the game when the medieval bowmen broke my wizard and carpet riders unit from bow fire. This resulted in me suiciding the remains of the lancers unit to draw their fire so that I could rally my Carpet riders. If the carpets were not rallied it was sure to be a medieval victory. The final outcome was a rallying of the carpet riders, and the destruction of the cannon, pikemen, and a unit of bowmen, and pike men at half strength. The medieval player finally conceded after my lightning strom broke his heavy infantry and the bow men. Overall, Because the medieval player was inexperienced against my army, this allowed my troops to maneuver into fights of multiple units against one to my advantage. His Calvalry is superior to mine, which is obvious to how much attacks his Paladins absorbed. So next time I'm scared because he knows what to expect from me. The word of advice to any one wanting to play an arabian knights army is to out maneuver your opponent because the majority of your troop costs are spent on movement. If you go for straight up engagements with the enemy in an attrition style game you will definately lose. If anyone is up for a Armies of Arcana game in the Albuquerque NM area please leave a message at Wargames West or Active Imagination the only game stores in Albuquerque for either Guy Benson or Thane Morgan. PS I highly recommend Armies of Arcana to anyone who has played Warhammer Fantasy Battle regardless if you have a positive or negative opinion of that game. Armies of Arcana is definately good if you want to run a Fantasy miniature game that uses over 200 to 400 figures a side. Furthermore, each model actually represents one individual man. WFB game (more skirmish than "mass combat", in my opinion...) Wood Elf archers can gun down almost anything before it even gets to them. Bloody game vs. lizards. [04 Jun 1999] |

My last battle was a small Human (Medieval) versus Orc Armies of Arcana battle. Humanity was victorious! [3 May 99] |

Was at a tournament. I played my dwarfs against an Undead opponent. Took a bound dragon and Ogre Allies. The main combat took place between my General and his hammerers agains his Skeleton Cav with his Vampire General. I was able to 'pin' his cav unit by allowing them to charge a small unit of Slayers. The Slayers tied them up long enough for me to move my big hammerers unit with the general against his. The combat took three bloody turns, but I eventually killed all his skeletons, wights, and wraiths, Caused his Vampire to flee, and to add insult to injury the last remaining slayer, chased him down and killed him in the pursuit. Glorious. My Dragon survived combat against his dragon and my Ogres we're killed by breaking from combat and being overrun themselves. I won the battle convincingly, notwithstanding. [2 May 99] |

Started A WFB campaign with a Night Goblin army. Only one magic item COC by default. One unfotunate shamans whoose head keeps blowing up. 5 battles fought. 5 battles one. The NG army is now the biggest in the campaign. Unfortunately only contains 4 character models and one magic item. Mind you having 5 charriots and a pump wagon helps!! [15 Apr 99] |

The last game I played was a game of Fantasy Rules! against my regular opponent. He used his regular Medieval army and I tried out my newer Celtic force. It was great fun! The highlight of the battle was the confrontation between his Longbow unit lead by his Cleric fighting my Goddess unit (a Major Spirit). In the end, my army was routed or destoyed, but the Goddess had a new toy-boy to take back to the Netherworld with her...... [15 Apr 99] |

Played a 2000 koku game of Clan War in a touranment and took 1st Place. An important factor in my vicotry was superior manueverability and that I was able to flank my opponent, denying him rank bonuses and giving my flankers "to hint" bonuses. [14 Mar 99] |

2000 pts., Phoenix vs.Unicorn. Open valley with forests on either side. My forces were a pike block screening dual archery units and house gaurd infront, next to a medium cav. Swept across the feild with cav and pinned down his hvy cav. while my archers pelted his groud troops. he charged his house gaurd into my pike block and my elites flanked his hvy cav. after destroying them, they swept into his archers. his house gaurd took losses, but routed my pikes. my archers finished him off. adding spells on my part, I won, if you like the period, Clan War is well worth the price. Get everything you need in one box. The supplements, while not necessary are well worth the price as well. This is a keeper. :) [17 Feb 99] |

Fantasy was FR!: an undead army using the Chaos list (with fear advatange) against an orc army. it was close to a draw when we called time, but it would have been a clear victory for the orcs in a couple of extra turns. I decided that if I was going to play chaos with hvy advantages that speed would be a better choice, and undead were better using the undead list. [17 Feb 99] |

A Tolkienesque fight using HOTT - digital pics available. Quite nice visually, with over 100 army points on each side in 15mm scale. Of course, the thrice damned forces of "good" won - damn the bad luck. [16 Feb 99] |

Clan War: 2000 Koku battle between the Dragon and Unicorn Clan. There was a serious amount of experimentation, especially on the Dragon side. Some key Dragon morale failures put the Unicorn in a clear, inevitable victory and the Dragon surrendered. Game took much longer than expected as we hashed out rule after rule... [15 Feb 99] |
