HOTT with a difference. Medieval fantasy vs Ent army. Knights won. Close game. [27 Sep 1999]

Brian Burger

1000 pt. Fantasy Rules! 2nd Ed. game, at the DragonFlight 99 convention in Seattle, a couple of weeks ago.

I had my medieval human army, and my opponent had Dwarves. Lots of knights, some footmen, and a Small Monster on my side; the Dwarves had a horde of axemen, some crossbows, and a big huge flying ship with artillery.

My knights charged the Dwarven infantry, expecting to ride them down like they rode down all other infantry. However, the Dwarves had terrible firebombs and were sturdier than men, so the charge mostly failed, with many knights falling and

others reeling back in shock. The human infantry was too far back, and when they did reach the dwarven line, they were outnumbered, outclassed and mostly slaughtered. The one great success of the humans was against the airboat, which was swarmed under when it descended to fight the human infantry.

Although one Dwarven flank was in disarray, the Dwarves stood victorious upon the field while the broken remains of the human army fled. It was a great game - I believe it was my opponent's first FR! game, and he did very well! Check out http://warbard.iwarp.com for other battle reports, and more FR! material & links. [15 Sep 1999]

Last Tuesday I played a 6000pt game of Armies of Arcana with Chris Henning. He played dwarves and I played orks. His dwarven infantry blocks of pikemen held up my units of scorpian riders and chariots. I mismanaged using my infantry to check his infantry and he out manuevered me by keeping his bear riders on the flanks of my engaged units. He defeated me hands down by tieing my units up with his infantry while his cannons and cross bow men tore me to pieces. Next time I will bring more infantry units so that I can pin his units and outnumber them. Game was played for seven turns and resulted in a decisive dwarven victory as all my units bounced off of his army. [27 Aug 1999]

I played a massive 15mm game at a convention. Humans and Dwarves vs. Undead army. The Undead held a postion within castle walls. The dwarves stormed the gates, and the humans brought up ladders to go over the wall. There were hundreds of minis out there all painted real well! The system was Chipcos fantasy rules. It is a great game! The game has rules for over 50 different armies (historical-to fantasy) Pick it up I loved it! [12 Aug 1999]

Was my first game of Clan Wars. Went kinda wierd, but still MUCH better than WHFB. Im getting into the game shortly, and Chronopia as well.. [8 Jul 1999]

We meet every few weeks with four or five people for a Saturday of Demonworld. When we meet in private, we play short campaings (following the campaign rules in the Demonworld Compendium, which are acually playable with very few modifications). Occasionally we run small tournaments at local cons, too.

My last games were at one of these local cons; there was a special scenarion where a magical circle in the middle of the field sucked in heroes to duel one-on-one. I had mostly mages as individuals, and they didn't fight so well... [30 Apr 99]

Fantasy Rules! Hill Dwarfs vs. Lizardmen. First time using 2nd ed. rules: great game, now even better! [18 Apr 99]

Joseph B. Prozinski

A game of Clan War at a local game store. It was a basic game with the units from the boxed set. We each had a unit of unaligned archers and unaligned infantry. I had the Crab Clan personality that comes with the box and my opponnent had the Crane Clan personality. It was a very close game. I lost because of a rash of bad dice rolls with my archers on one turn. I did no damage and the archers were spent for a turn because of the tactics card I played on the unit before they attacked. A very enjoyable game with excellent miniatures. [16 Apr 99]

Lizardmen vs. Undead

A 1500 pt warhammer rules game were my army was basically annihilated due to an undead spell which caused my level 2 slann to whither and age and die because I rolled a 2 instead of a 3+. It was annoying as I had stored the total power card for my next turn. The rest of my army slowly succumbed to other undead spells. AHHHH !! [10 Apr 99]

Mick Galuski

My Dwarves shredded a Bretonian army. First by shooting half their army dead with crossbows and organ cannons, and then by chopping them up with a unit of Miners and Iron Breakers.

I can't wait for the Middle Earth Battle System. [6 Apr 99]

Orcs vs. Helsinians. The game was, as all Raven games, great. [1 Apr 99]

Empire Vs. Bretonnia. Empire Cannon's rules the battlefield.

I have only played 2 rulesets. Though Warhammer Fantasy Battle may not be the most realistic(far from it) It is pretty fun, and the miniatures are probably making me extremely biased, though i shouldn't be. [22 Mar 99]

We've started playing Clan War, which I only bought three weeks ago. We loved it, but aren't into it yet as painting Samurai armor can take time. :) Lots of good things about this system. Soon I will order the historical ruleset put out by, and to be used with, Two Dragons figures (which I also own). [17 Mar 99]

Im a GM. Last major battle was with a PC named Eric in Sigil {planscape}.He had joined a small of nommads in Arcadia. They happened to meet a group of orcs and slaughtered them all.The tribe hearing of this sent aa army of 800 orcs , who won the battle over the PC and freinds with heavy casualties [13 Mar 99]

Used Battlesystem to play a scenario based on LOTR. My brother's fourth age Avari army was cleaning up the valley from orcish infestation. We refrained from using magic and instead tried to make the game play as "medieval" as possible --pure tactics and brute strength with concessions to fantasy play being centered on racial characteristics. My orcs won a minor victory by holding their positions along a cave-infested mountain slope. The fight was pretty bloody though with the avari losing 3/4ths of their force --although they managed to push back the orcish territories a bit farther away from their settlements.

Great page. wargaming is pretty rare in our part of the world & its pretty fun to see what you guys are doing. Would it be too much to ask if you could provide links to resources on lotr scenarios, heraldry, orders of battle? thanks and keep up the great work! [13 Mar 99]

(WarHammer Fantasy) My rat army got decimated by assault of stone. Had a hill moved onto my screaming bell and unit of 40 clan rats, which included my grey seer & warlord. Needless to say, it sucked. [1 Mar 99]

Boyd Kleen

My Phoenix Ranged attack army lost on points after 8 turns to a Crane Tactician/Dueling deck. We were playtesting some new units. I killed many more of his rank and file troops, but he managed to keep them from breaking long enough to get into hand to hand and kill 3 of my leaders. [18 Feb 99]

I was playing a Brettonian army in a tourney, and we were in the semi-finals. I was facing an undead army. The undead player advanced his hordes, casting spells left & right, and wreaking havoc on my flanks. It was my turn, and so I charged my knights forward. Because of a special ability of my knights, when I charge I roll an extra d6 for distance. I rolled a 5 and came into contact with a unit of mummies. I killed all but two of them, and they broke. I followed them and ran smack into his necromancer. I killed him in the next turn, and his army crumpled to dust. 2 turn kill. (BTW, I won the tourney on a die roll, literally) [18 Feb 99]

Eric Landes

A devastating Clan War battle where Phoenix ran the whimpering Lion from the field. [15 Feb 99]

Brian Burger

Last game? Hordes of the Things, I had an Elven army and my opponent had an Orc & allies army. I was winning handily (archers rule) when his general killed my general, and my army disintegrated due to lack of command...drat. Last Dwarven game, I stomped a human foot army. My scratchbuilt Dwarven Airboat kept their flanks nicely occupied! I'm going to get Fantasy Rule! 2nd Ed. fairly soon. They look like great rules... [11 Feb 99]
