Second edition differences from the third edition:

  • second edition's three books were compiled into single third-edition book
  • cover and binding quality of third edition were improved for store sales
  • minor rules changes (complete list available online) - Heroic Challenge, two sizes of war machines, overruns, berserk and fearless abilities, plus rules clarifications and some revised stats.

According to the publisher, if you own the second printing of AoA, you probably do not need to buy the third edition, since all changes can be downloaded from their website.
