I love the Baccus miniatures and I want to have an phyrric and republic roman army as counterpart. What Miniatures from baccus can I buy for Phyrros? What can I use for his italien allies? What are the pros and cons of Warmaster ancient and FoG in this scale? And what rulesystem is better for this periode? Thanx a lot – regards desertfox |

Both FoG and WMA use the standard 40mm frontage for 6mm to 15mm so there isn't any difference in playing style, just the look of the game. Personally I like WMA but I haven't played FoG so can't compare. WMA gives a fast and accurate game, as in the end result seems to match history. Many people don't like the fact that they don't have complete control over their units but it feels right to me. And I know some units in WMA are based facing the short edge but I just base everything on the long edge and use the alternative basing rule in the rule book. No rebasing needed and you can play other rule sets as well. |

I can't get into FOG at all. WMA is a problem for me. I want to love it, but somehow the combat phase feels wrong. a couple of friends and I are determined to have a dozen games each to see if we can 'Get' it. I live in hope. Hate to say it – have you considered DBM or DBMM? Pat |

I play both, and I'll say this.I wouldnt say either one is better for the period,as they both are fun games in different ways. What I will say is that it sounds like youre just starting in the period, and because of that,I would start with Warmaster,as it tends to be a little less figure intensive than FOG. I definately would recommend branching out into FOG later when youve got more stuff and more experience with the period. As to Baccus 6mm,they are very nice figures,I have the Republicans, and are easy to paint.I cant see any problems with using them for either game,as ancients have a great advantage with its standardised basing. This is just my .02 cents, other's mileage may vary. |

I have played both and i have also been experimenting with Impetus. like others have said, if you go for the 40mm frontage then its easy to swap between rulsets. Some thoughts on the various rulesets are on my blog- stevesblog-yorkie.blogspot.com Hope its of some help. |

Thanx a lot, DBX is no option for me. I like rules with a little less control over my miniatures and a bit of chaos on the battlefield. What I saw I think FoG is more detailed with army lists, troop options and so on. WMA got this 3 bases for all units, kind of strange, but it seems fun. I think I will buy two armies and give both rules a try^^ |

How about miniaturizing the "Commands & Colors: Ancients" game from GMT? 6mm scale would work in the 2.2" hexes if mounted accordingly. |

Yeah, I'm gonna be honest with you. As a long-time WAB and WMA fan, I'm currently really having a fun time with DBMM. I'm painting a Baccus 6mm Syracusan army right now just for that purpose. I suspect I'll give FoG a try, but DBMM in 6mm has a very cool look to it. Let us know what you decide to do and post some battle pics when you get those armies done. Dave |
