Greetings all,

As you are aware the global rights to Koenig Krieg and related supplements have been sold to Drew Birkmyre (myself). My company which will be dealing with the Era of Frederick the Great is called Seige Works Studios. We have just got up and running our Website and Forum, thanks to Ken(Saltykov on the Forum relating to all things about Koenig Krieg and the Era of Frederick the Great.

The website is koenigkrieg.com

This will be the official Koenig Krieg website. That is not to deter anyone from this site or any other, as we welcome as much publicity from any and all forums.

Firstly, I would like to thank Geoff and all the other members of LKM for the professional and smooth sale and transition of the deeds etc.

Many of the crew at LKM have been under quite a lot of pressure from other areas, mostly personal. Despite this they were very helpful and we at Seige Works Studios welcome any advertising or contributions on our website. We also wish them all the best in the coming year for all of them!

So what is going to happen next??????????

Well we have big plans for the Wars from around 1730-1770. This will be our first goal. The third edition of Koenig Krieg will have lots of colour pics, glossy pages, introductory army lists and a clearer and more concise Index and Chapters for the players ease of use and enjoyment. There will also be clarifications and expanded definitions on various terrain and much much more.

Alongside this, will be comprehensive and detailed Army list
Supplements for this period. These books will include the Army lists, a Brief History, Uniform details etc. The Army Lists will be fair and balanced points generated lists, something which has not as yet been officially addressed by the earlier editions and supplements.

Once all these have been published, we will begin working on
Historical Refight Supplements, so that those more historically inclined may refight the great battles of the period, not just play points balanced games.

We will also be working on a really cool Small Battles Supplement so that players can refight battles in the Carribean, Phillipines, America, India and possibly even Asia. (Although Asia has yet to be agreed on…..)

Later will come out La Guerre du Roi 1670-1730 Ruleset and so will our Campaign and Seige Supplements. But at present we are concentrating on Koenig Krieg.

That is our task at hand. Now some way down the track we may develop a miniatures range, specifically for Koenig Krieg. At present, there are a number of manufacturers who do produce miniatures for the Era. LKM(Freikorp), Old Glory, Irregular and Minifigs(Tom Dye)to name a few.

We will however, certainly be producing counters, maneuver cards, dice and bases in the future for Koenig Krieg. There are at present two manufacturers of Koenig Krieg bases. Anyone wishing to get their contact details please visit the Koenig Krieg website and ask on the forums for that info.

Lastly, I hear you say. When! When! When! A good question and one deserving an answer for the very patient fans of Koenig Krieg. To begin with, I will not compromise the integrity of the core rules in this version. I will however, make sure that it is the best version
to date. That there is no ambiguity, confusion, poor spelling, etc. In short you the player, deserve the very best I can offer! As such I will not rush any aspect of the Rules and Supplements just to get them out there. When I am satisfied they are ready, then they will be produced. Fear not, we do have a timeline all things going well. I am
looking at a release date for all the Army Lists and Third Edition for Start of September 2008. Now it may end up being earlier or later. But that is our timeline at present.

Any further questions can be directed to koenig krieg forums at koenigkrieg.com

I am very excited about this task ahead and have been wanting to do this for over four years now. I have been playing Koenig Krieg for about ten years and have always thought that they are a remarkable testament to the original author Barry Gray, his vision and his grasp
of miniature table top battles. Now almost 30 years on from the original epiphany Seige Works Studios in the new millenium and a new century are going to bring you the most amazing Edition yet!

Hey Drew,

Sounds great. in this, the 250th anniversary of the SYW, KK redux will be a most welcome addition to replace my old but much used and enjoyed set of rules. A good battalion based set of rules will excellent to supplement brigade level systems such as Might and Reason.

Can I make one suggestion – possibly going to a base width measurement to enable gamers based up for Age of Reason and Might and Reason could be a really clever way to attract new players to the game – people hate rebasing and modern games I think work best with a flexible basing system and optimally (IMO), no figure removal.

I agree, Bill Gray's original concept had much to offer.

Great to hear this happening …good on you.

Regards

like the base width thing myself and defiately allows more flexible use if ones armies..

de Ligne04 Feb 2008 3:37 a.m. PST

Additionally, I'd like to get back into KK using double sized units (24 fig Prussian battalions, for example, rather than 12s). A note in the new rules on how this could be achieved might be a good idea.

OldGrenadier Fezian04 Feb 2008 4:03 a.m. PST

I for one welcome this news. KK was my first serious attempt at painting and basing miniatures. Somewhere in my boxes I still have most of a brigade of French foot, just itching to get at the Brits and their allies/mercenaries :)

nsolomon9904 Feb 2008 5:03 a.m. PST

Bravo!! A long awaited endeavour. I too second the comments on basing. I'd observe that when Barry Gray first wrote KK the figures he and everyone were using were the true 15mm figures that look tiny today up against an Old Glory or Essex or Eureka figure. With true 15's a 3/4 inch frontage worked ok but the newer 15mm ranges are now really 18mm and a 1" frontage for a 2 up + 2 back figure base would be more practical.

Good luck with it,

Nick

Excellent news-I bought my set back in 1985 to go with my old 15mm Freikorps miniatures, and keep coming back to it long after I got rid of my 15's (after one breakage too many in those "brittle metal" days).

As regards basing, I now play using twelve figures in three stands based in single rank as basing the same number of miniatures in two ranks just didn't look "linear" enough. I use 28's, with 15mm frontage per figure (only metric tape measures available where I live).

Like de Ligne, I'm thinking of going the 24-figure route with no change to the rules- just for aesthetics.

I played KK with Irregular Miniatures 6mm. A 6 figure strip was the right width for the KK stands. I double ranked them so had 36 man battalions. No change to the rules required and it looked great.

Well said! <s>Aesthetics</s> are a major appeal of table-top gaming, imho.

Jeff of SaxeBearstein06 Feb 2008 7:56 p.m. PST

queveritas,

I too prefer 24-man battalions (12 figures x 2 ranks) for the "look" of things . . . it has a far more "linear" look than the traditional KK basing.

Please include a list of what changes need to be made for those of us who like these longer units.

I tried to register on the forum, but for some reason or another (and I certainly do not rule out a brain meltdown on my part) I never received the email allowing me to activate the membership.

I sent an email to the administrator musket 99 but it too bounced back. Maybe one of the site administrators is reading this and can help me out here.

Hey Stavka,

I have sent a report to our admin guy to check out if there is a glitch on our end. Other persons have registered since the 6th but you never know.

The web site has been updated with a new front page and a new gallery. We have also implemented a new gallery viewing capability as well which requires you to load a log-in for your browser if you wish to use the new facility. The plug-in can be loaded from piclens.com. this makes viewing your gallery awesome, so check it out.

Don't forget to give us some feedback on the new features.
