Other threads have people talking about the rules Koenig Krieg for Seven Years War, and folks say they're good. I've just finished basing up a Minifigs SYW Austrian army, with a French and a Prussian force waiting in the wings.

So where can I get a set of these rules? Help!

Tony Barr22 Jun 2004 1:24 p.m. PST

I still have a few copies of the original print left, rules only, none of the supplements. Details in the downloadable catalogue on the web site - www.eastridingminiatures.co.uk

The rules will be republished by LKM this fall/winter, with assistance from Tom Dye. Same rules, rebundled with supplements, and with new photos of minis rather than old drawings.

This is the best news I've had all months! :)

Thanks to Chris and Gloria von Fannenstock at Outland games, I now have the electronic version of most of the rules. With it, it should be easy to plug in pictures of minis in the place of those old line drawings, to illustrate play examples.

There will be two versions:

1. SYW-Includes the Campaign and Siege rules.
2. WSS-Ditto.

Finally, I think we will again see some sieges and perhaps even some campaigns once again being played!

Best,
Tom Dye

Little Wars in Houston has the basic rule set available now as they have some agreement w/Freikorps and LKM. However, if you can wait to get the Campaign and Siege rules included with the Basic rules, that would be the best of all worlds. Just how patient are you?

Not very. I've ordered the basic set from East Riding and if we like them, will order the new one when it's printed.

After all, a tin army costs hundreds of dollars. Why not spend another $20 or so for a good set of rules?

Tom, when your website is back up you should make sure it's a headliner here.

Tom: Any idea when KK will be reprinted? Looking forward to getting a copy. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me where I might get a copy of the KK rules from ?

If they are out of print I would even consider a photocopy

That site only discusses the planned release of a new version – maybe in December.

As someone new to the period, I've heard they are quite good, and I would like to try them out.

Does no-one have a copy of the old set ?

Tom Dye,

Did I understand you correctly? Will there be a WSS version (with the changes already included instead of trying to cross-reference them)?

If so, I want a set.

So we've gone from mid 2004 to nearly 2009 and still NOTHING? That's worse than the automakers! Amazing the hobby still exists…

andyfb15 Nov 2008 8:46 p.m. PST

If i understand correctly there has been a new version in 2004 and now another version is due very soon…can anyone correct me on this?

Cheers Andy

Just dug out some of my 18th C. rules, didn't realise i had got so many, never played any of them fully & i don't play at all now.

Frederick the Great – Fantasy games inc 1977
Koenig Krieg – 2nd ed. Frei Korps 15 n.d.
18th Century warfare 2nd ed. TJ Halsall Newbury Rules 1980
Black Eagles – Lenton/Sapherson – Raider Games 1985

might have another read for amusement, are they now collectors pieces, worth loads?

Guthroth17 Nov 2008 2:30 a.m. PST

The latest I've heard is that the rules are being re-published by a group of enthusiasts in Australia and they are due out either in December or January.

I'd never heard of them until recently, and I now have a copy thanks to a very generous offer by IR1Lothringen above.

My son and I played through them for the first time yeaterday afternoon (just a few battalions and a single gun) and we found them a very interesting set. They certainly give a nice 'feel' for the period.

I await the reprint with great interest, but I will be surprised if I have a set in my hands before Feburary.

There is Koenig Krieg Yahoo list which has some useful information, updates on teh rules progress and is a good place to ask questions.

Graf Bretlach, I would happily buy your original set if you want to sell…..

Please drop me a line at guthroth @ colanhomm .org

I'll hang onto them for now, not sure why, maybe sentimental reason.
if you have a copy of the old set, wait for the revised edition.

Guthroth22 Nov 2008 1:30 p.m. PST

Well after today, me.

I found a set on a traders stand at Warfare.

Happy day !

@ Jeff of Saxe-Bearstein

My old set includes the siege volume that includes a section to amend the main KK rules to WSS. Sounds like they might be planning a version with the changes incorporated.

I fail to see the wisdom of proliferating the number of books needed for a ruleset that is being resurrected.

Guthroth28 Nov 2008 4:27 p.m. PST

The new rules have a web forum here -

I haven't read anthing there about a WSS section, it would be worth asking.

Pete

Jeff of SaxeBearstein30 Nov 2008 5:09 a.m. PST

Malbrook,

Yes I have that . . . but it is a real pain trying to cross reference all of the changes. I'd much prefer a WSS set with the changes "in place" . . . and with modern computers, that really shouldn't be that hard.

We, Sieg Works Studios, have not yet decided how we will publish the WSS rules, Le Guerre de Roi.

We may do as previous publishers and just publish the changes to the standard KK rules, we may publish a full rule set but say in PDF to minimise the costs.

Tell what you think would be an optimum way to re-publish them.

bavoisSYW30 May 2009 12:00 a.m. PST

I would like a full copy, not sure whether as a payable PDF or as a new book like Koenig Krieg. I think it would be much cheaper as a download. So yes I would like a downloaded copy, but with all the rules like what you are doing with KK, thanks TEC!
