Has anyone played both? I have played KK and love it but am always open to new rules. |

I vote for Die Krieg Kunst. I have played both. KK is a fun & simpler. DKK strives harder to more faithfully reproduce the tactics of the era, but is not too complex & is based on the very successful General de Brigade. I have not played all of David Brown's rules but I have played at least 4 of them. All are very playable & intelligent. The charge sequence can be a bit tricky in DKK. If you have problems I can send you our notes on the rules that make that 1 area easier, JPK |

DKK uses figure removal doesn't it? If so not a fan. |

I don't bother with figure removal, just put a casualty marker down, could write it down like the old days I suppose. But no you don't need to remove figures. DKK gets my vote. |

Used to playDKK….switched to Black Powder with the LAOK amendments…found it better, particularly the simple but effective command rules |

I use casualty caps for DKK. The people I play with hate games that don't have units get smaller as they take damage. So of course we switched from Black Powder to DKK as we found DKK an improvement! But as they say opinions are like s. JPK |

I am confused on the basing for DKK. Do all the units, no matter of they are 16 or 24, have the same frontage? |

I am confused on the basing for DKK. Do all the units, no matter of they are 16 or 24, have the same frontage? No. Each nation has a recommended number of stands per infantry unit. Russians, from memory, only have 4 stands (16), Prussians are 5 stands (20) and Austrians 6 stands, maybe more. |

To add to the confusion, you can use real (?) OOB and then use smaller units. There are a few sample OOB's in the rulebook. I believe they use a 1 fig = 40 men scale. Could also be interesting if you play campaigns, were units can have losses from former battles. |
