Writing in Slingshot magazine #275, Richard Jeffrey-Cook observes…

The disadvantage of an army with a small number of battle groups is that it gives you much less opportunity to make mistakes.

Do you agree?

I think so. Small number of battle groups usually means its a horde army with larger BGs of not-so-great troops. Or, it's because you have very good troops and you decided to spend extra points on command. In either case, if things go sour with one of the fights and one of your BGs runs away, it will take a large percentage of your army with it. Most likely, a general too. You may also have trouble giving support to your front line BGs without seriously reducing your frontage. So, you had better win all of your combats.

It's probably the same in most rules.

"less opportunity to make mistakes"

Surely that's a good thing? Less opportunity for mistakes should (hopefully) translate to less mistakes made, therefore potentially a better chance of succeeding.

If however the author means that any mistakes made will have more serious consequences, then he has a point.
