How many play these rules and do you think they're better than DBM or Warhammer Ancients?

Not many do I guesse – hi this is Chris P. the author. If you'd like a look into the rules as well as an idea of the changes between II and IIIrd editions go to the website and go to Day of Battle. You'll find a "talking points" article that I wrote for Slingshot this spring. DoB fits in between DBM and Warhammer. It uses the DBx bases and terminilogy. It is a lower game scale than Dbx and a higher one than Warhammer. Units are 3 bases that represent 50 to 100 men. Ground scale is 5 yards to the inch. Finally DoB is more about leadership during and after the battle. The idea is to grow your personality called a Warlord (after Charleton Hestons movie) from battle to battle. But as it was said in Spinal Tap – "enough of my yapping". In closing DoB doesn't appeal to the bulk of gamers. Not sure why it is just an "IS". Happy gaming whatever rules you choose. Chris P.
