I have bought DBR and WAB for some Renassiance gaming. I am getting ready to mount figures (maybe) and have the following questions I need help with.

1. In DBR is there any reason why there are 4-pike needed per element. Can you use three without problems?

2. In DBR is there any reason not to double rank your pikes? For example instead of 2 ranks of 60x30 is a 60x60 effectively equivelent? Do you lose any tactical flexibilty by basing twice as deep with twice the number of figures?

3. I like the 20x20mm "look" of the WAB basing, but do not want to hamper myself if I find that most in the area play DBR (or at conventions).

Any feedback would be appreciated.

1.) The number of models on the base does not in any way affect the rules, it is just for looks – feel free to the number of models on base that feels suitable to you (though if you only put one model on every base, some people might have trouble identifying the skirmishers).

2.) There might be problems with the casualty removal.

3.) AFAIK mostly DBR is played in 15mm, so if you are going for 28mm WAB might be more popular. Anyway, you can always base for WAB, put washers on the bottom of the base and then use 30x60 mm sheets of magnetic card to turn the individual models into DBR base.

What Griefbringer says is good. The trouble is with the cavalry. The recommended DBR bases are too small depthwise to support the typical 25x50mm cavalry bases for WAB. You may have to have the cav dedicated to both basing systems with individually based infantry as per Griefbringer.

Yep, the cavalry might be a problem – though in WAB the unit width is more important than depth, so you could play WAB with 40mm deep cavalry bases. Or just put a 10mm wide strip before each rank to bring them to the "proper" depth.

That said, fitting 28mm horses on 40mm deep bases can be somewhat painful to do.
