Roll Call is the current BHGS "Big Boy's Toys" event, and so I fielded 2 separate 28mm armies, one of which was the Spanish that I was driving and one was the Weimarians, which I ended up facing in the last game…
See how the big toys did in 4 by-now-familiar match reports.
The photo's aren't all close-ups, the figures are 28mm – and I am delighted to be able to say that I managed to post this before Armand spotted it too! |

Fantastic battle reports as usual. But I can't stand fighting corner-sitting armies. Are they there to have fun or just concerned with wining? Steve |

To be fair, in Renaissance it's a much more valid tactic than say in Ancients. In 28mm especially, you also have the added issue that (as I proved) mounted are less effective, and the infantry units are wider so can fill the table anyway denying mounted much chance to open up the flanks. Infantry cant do this as well as mounted, as their formations struggle to wheel round. This all meant that there simply wasn't as much benefit or opportunity for "maneuver" as a sensible tactic, so sitting still with more artillery was better than moving forwards and maybe having my horse find gaps to exploit. I suppose it also could be seen as the "downside" of having a ruleset where artillery have the potential to sometimes be useful, but only if they can shoot for a fairly long period of time.. ! |
