I've just finished my first 5-man squad of Ultramarines for 6mm skirmish gaming. I'm using the original metal range from Adeptus Titanicus, available in the late '80s. I should say 30k rather than 40k though, as my gaming will be set during the Horus Heresy.

My intention is to use FUBAR and see how that works out, but once I have enough troops and vehicles painted I'm hoping to try out some mass battle systems, including Mantic's Warpath.

This is my first time trying to post photos in this way (thanks to Angel Barracks for the suggestion of using Photobucket). The colours have come out a bit different to how they look in real life – I don't know if that's my lighting, camera or monitor, but it's close enough to give an idea of what I'm doing.

Anyway, here's the first squad of Ultramarines to arrive at the gathering of troops on Calth – one sergeant, three marines and a lascannon gunner:

They're also expecting some old 'friends' to arrive soon to reinforce them:

I had no idea there were 6mm Epic in metal!
Great painting BTW!

excelent

Yeah originaly when Adeptus Titanicus and space marine came out you got little "extras" in the blister packs from marines to rapiers

You needed to buy a lot of blisters to get a few though (as example 1 marine figure on the sprue with purity seals in every reaver titan blister – though these were on,y £3.95 GBP in those days)

Can wait to see more keep them coming

Thanks guys. grin

As Al said, you got one or two infantry or light vehicles included in blister packs of titans and tanks, but for a brief time GW also sold all-infantry blisters, and you could get them through mail order.

As well as marines, I've got a load of metal Eldar infantry and vehicles. I don't think the metal ork infantry ever got an official release, although they appeared in White Dwarf, so my orks will be a Kult of Speed – loads of metal warbikes, supported by wartraks, buggies, dreads, etc.

Awesome!

This is such a cool project. I had the first edition of Space Marine (which came out after Adeptus Titanicus I think?) but never collected enough of the other stuff to pick up any of the metal bits. I've always liked the background for the 30k period. Marines fighting marines before being mutated by chaos. My favorite force was the Dawn Raiders (Death Guard) with the white armor and the single red arm.

Can't wait to see more of your project.

Great Stuff !!! Love the old school Metal SMs !!! Got a bunch I've got to work on !!! And most of DAs are those old metal SMs !!! And I got a bunch of the metal Eldar too, enough to make up a unit !! thumbs up

Very cool.
Yay the 6mm FUBAR!

Have you done stats for them yet?

Parmenion14 Jun 2012 10:45 a.m. PST

Thanks again for all the encouraging comments! grin

I'm just putting the finishing touches on a couple of Rhinos, but will wait 'till I've got the Word Bearers squad finished before I post them (in case anyone doesn't recognise the red guy's Legion, it's post-Isstvan Word Bearers, with red armour and a black demon-head icon on yellow flames).

Have you done stats for them yet?
My temptation is always to write loads of specific rules for things, but keeping to the spirit of FUBAR I'm just going to use standard stats. The marines will be Veterans in Power Armour (3+) with Assault Rifles. The lascannon will be a Light Anti-Tank Gun

The only deviations I'm planning from the rules are to treat bikes as cavalry rather than vehicles (i.e. as infantry, but with base move 9cm and +1 to saving throws) and something to accommodate twin-linked weapons. At first I thought of just doubling the FP, but that seems a bit too powerful, so I'll probably go down the current 40k route and allow re-rolls on misses.

Angel Barracks14 Jun 2012 10:55 a.m. PST

Power Armour you say?
What will Terminators be then?

I would have done them as heavy armour which is 4+, which is what they were in 40k?
And the terminators as power armour.

Though what does it matter what I think.
I am not playing with you!

:D

Those figures are sooo cool.

No termies, they hadn't been invented at the release of Adeptus Titanicus and I don't have minis for them. I could get some from the current range, but I expect they'd be on the small side (these old metals are a bit bigger than the contemporary plastics).

Maybe 3+ saves are too generous… I was just going by the descriptions in FUBAR, which say 3+ for powered armour. Though that would make marine bikers save on a 2+, which is a bit extreme. Hmmm…

blacksmith14 Jun 2012 11:35 a.m. PST

You could use the Chaos Termies. They're much bigger than their counterparts and you can cut off their chaos spikes easily as they are plastic.

ooooh it is the grey polystyrene buildings!
I remember spending ages filing down those bobbles.

Memory Lane Tastic.

Parmenion14 Jun 2012 11:54 a.m. PST

Thanks for the tip blacksmith, I'll look into that. I could always keep the spikes for my Word Bearers.

I remember spending ages filing down those bobbles.
I'm lazy, I just left the bobbles on. grin

Going to work on some Adeptus Titanicus-era craters next.

Fantastic! Hows the project going?

Lead Space21 Sep 2012 1:23 a.m. PST

Btw here is a comparison pic of the metal marine and a newer terminator.

The size is about right Imo
