Despite the nay-sayers this new board does seem to be generating a fair number of posts. Is it time, then, to stop carping and just accept that there is a proportion of the TMP community who are interested in this topic ? (sits back and awaits criticism
) |

Actually, I started playing 6th Edition only recently
unbelievable, isn't it? |

Well, I've never played 6th – but now I know I can use figures based for th, the army lists are sort of interchangable and the rules are downloadable for free I'm definetly going to try some 5th & 6th comparison games. |

I've had armies languishing since the mid 90s. |

See that's silly, isn't it ? Money and (more important !) time spent on these armies, then the rule set dips in popularity and the figures don't get used. |

Who's moaning? This isn't exactly the Emopire Board, and even that one has settled down. EDIT. I was about to correct the spelling of "Emopire", but then figured Naaaahhhh. |

Nay sayers can be found on the message thread announcing the board. and elsewhere. They get everywhere these nay sayers.
Never a nay sayer be. That's my motto. Most of the time. If the question is "want to rob a bank?" then I become a nay sayer. But, in the context of TMP and playing wargames it's quite hard to make me a nay sayer. Unless it's a post 1940 game. And a few others. But mostly – never a nay sayer be – is my motto. As I think I mentioned before. |

Why is there a WRG6 board, but not one for DBA that must have 10 times as many players, and posting? I do not understand this Poll Creation business. How do I create a DBA Board? I do not begrudge a WRG6 board to all those who want it, just asking for a DBA board. Thanks |

How do I create a DBA Board? Create a P{oll Suggestion thread. I think there may already be one. |

What's the difference between 6th, and 5th or 7th, other than the brief comment that from some that bows are too powerful in the latter? Given the historical record, sounds like 7th is about right in that respect, since bow-armed armies seemed to dominate others frequently. Also, are these variants still available in print from anyone, or as a Pdf? |

6th is available from John Curry, 7th – not sure, 1st to 5th are free downloads from phil barker's web page |

Olivero, I've been with my current game group for about 6 or 7 years and we still use 6th – I doubt they've played any other ancients system since 6th came out! |

7th has morphed into Warrior, put out by the 4 Horsemen. The game is totally different from 6th, and in ways too numerous to mention. You can see a "family resemblance" for the 3rd through the 6th. I never played 1st or 2nd. |

How many of the posts are actually discussing the rules? |

Differences between 5th, 6th and 7th edition. Biggest change as I recall between 5th and 6th were basing changes. The first was making the frontage for 15mm a bit larger as most of the figure makers wouldn't fit the 7.5mm per figure for close order infantry so changed to 10mm. 40mm for 4 infantry sound familiar anyone? And Regular Light Medium or Light Heavy infantry could be based at 4 per 40mm instead of 3 per 30mm that irregular LMI/LHI used. Since the figures in contact made a difference in those rules that meant the armies with drilled auxiliary infantry were actually significantly more effective in melee. 7th edition was where the entire casualty and ground scale changed. Instead of figuring casualties at 20 men per figure and taking casualties as men, the casualties were assessed as figures, or likelihood of a single figure. Which was the transition to stand or element casualty systems. There were of course adjustments to point systems, changes to casualty tables and weapon effects scattered throughout. |
