For groups that continued playing older editions of the rules, it looks like 6th probably has the largest following -- Do you gain new players over time, or is it largely for the grognards? |

I think that WRG ancients grew in popularity up till 6th, 7th caused a lot of people to fall out of love and then DBM brought many of them and plenty more into Ancients. |

Occasionally have new meat join us, but no one who has gone nuts for rules and minis yet. 'Course, I'm from a pretty isolated area. |

Started at 2nd edition, still own it, enjoyed 6th, hated 7th and was finally driven from Ancients by DBM. FOG got me back in. |

Started at 2nd edition, too
hated 6th (the old WRG approach disappearing up its own *** etc.), loved 7th (new ideas – huzzah!), but was forced to diversify by DBM (viva Armati!)
FoG is better. Difficult to love but easy enough to get on with
. I have tried 'a game with the old rules' to humour friends but they quickly feel quite outdated
Played Armati at Britcon, played DBA at Eastern Front (and on Monday night)
will be playing FoG this weekend (Society of Ancients Doubles at Abingdon): variety is the spice of life. Phil Steele soawargamesteam.blogspot.com |

I'm the opposite of Phil
liked 6th Edition, hated 7th, loved DBM (and still do), bored by Armati and FoG Ancients. Current rules DBM, PBI (WW2), FoG Renaissance, Civil War Battles (ACW) – all played regularly. DBM is still attracting new players in unexpected places, such as deepest Norfolk. But most DBMers are those who decided not to move to DBMM or FoG. |

Although having said that, I was a convert to 6th ed. I only started into miniatures ancients about 5 years ago and use 6th ed rules – the rules of choice for my game group. I bought FoG but have yet to make heads or tails of the rules. |
