Old editions of WRG Ancients can be downloaded from Phil barkers web-site (http://www.wrg.me.uk).

Have you downloaded any or all of the 5 editions available, and if so, why ?

Yes – all, wanted to read them, only read them
Yes – all, wanted to read them, ended up playing them

No. I gave up on them more than 30 years ago, and nostalgia hasn't driven me backwards.

No. I haven't downloaded any of them. If I did I still probably wouldn't read them because I hate reading things on the computer screen.

I have 5th, 6th, and 7th, with access to a copy of 4th. So no.

Yesthatphil04 Oct 2011 4:04 p.m. PST

No, but I have used the version of 2.2 DBA which is there.

The last half dozen or so new players that I have introduced to that game have been very grateful that such a classic game is available (currently) at no cost.

It lacks the army lists – but you can see what is in a typical army by taking a look at the fantastic array on the Fanaticus site.

A brilliant resource and inspiration (whether you play DBA or not) …

WRG are to be congratulated on keeping so much of the 'back collection' in the public domain.

Already had 5th editon. What I really wanted to do was play 1st edition – because I'd read in the purple primer how the morale had worked out – example of a British warband encounters legion on a road through a wood – both look at each other, don't like what they see, and run away. I wanted to try a similar scenario and see what happened !

haven't got around toit yet.

Agreed.

Sundance04 Oct 2011 4:07 p.m. PST

Nope. I have three copies of WRG 6th and a set of the army lists. Don't need to download them.

21eRegt04 Oct 2011 6:51 p.m. PST

Nope, I still have 6th and 7th edition and would play it in a heartbeat if there were others around.

kyoteblue04 Oct 2011 8:26 p.m. PST

Not so much…

Just to note that 6th and 7th edition are not avaialble to download on Phil's site.

Khusrau05 Oct 2011 4:06 a.m. PST

Have most of them anyway. But I echo the comment that was made about it being great that WRG are prepared to give stuff away for free, especially things like HOTT & DBA2.2

Gives the lie to claims the new editions are only an excuse to gouge some more money, (which IMHO has never been the case).

No, still have my hard copies of 5th, 6th 7th,

Still play 6th occasionally as the best of the bunch by far.

I also have hard copies of some of DBA/DBM stuff, but dont like it as a game so much. Never did go beyond early DBM.

Grand Duke Natokina29 Oct 2011 1:40 p.m. PST

No.

wballard10 Nov 2011 9:22 p.m. PST

Downloaded for completeness. I still have 5th and later rule books and army lists.

Especially wanted the 4th edition for the fantasy part. I started with 5th edition when new and didn't buy the close-out copy of 4th and regretted it for 20 years.

One of these days I want to put together a play test group to replay the same battle with as many different rule sets as practical just to see what weirdness results.

Was there any further Army List books for 7th edition by Hutchby and Clark after the first 3?

Thank you

Jon Lead Slayer23 Apr 2012 12:41 p.m. PST

I have 6th and 7th editions in physical form along with all of the 6th edition army list books.
