For those WAB-lovers I can say this : they are still the best playable ancient rules today, and it certainly won't be replaced by Hail Caesar. HC is more interesting for those who play DBM. |

i have never played wab, if i feel the urge i will dig my original ruleset and supplements off the shelf and use them. a new edition does not kill the game- it can simply be ignored, like i ignored runequest 3 in my youth. |

HC is more interesting for those who play DBM. I suspect that Hail Caesar will prove to have even less in common with DBM than it does with WAB! As I mentioned previously, gamers like me who enjoy the Warmaster Ancients/Black Powder design philosophy, will probably also enjoy playing HC. Ultimately it will stand on its own merits, just like WAB and all the others. |

HC is more interesting for those who play DBM Yeah, I was trying to make sense of that one as well ! |

Perhaps it means more interesting than? |

Are they mutually exclusive then? Can't they all just get along? I guess the answer to that will depend on how strict they are with their own basing conventions. Leigh |

Players can use just about any basing system with Hail Caesar, as long as unit frontages are reasonably consistent. It would also be helpful to have some way to indicate various unit formations. Cheers, Scott |

Thanks for that, Mr Numerous Gauls, sounds like a potential purchase on Saturday. It will be good to see the demo game being run. Leigh |

Hi as a DBx player, HC is more interesting to me than WAB-like systems since it seems to emphasize command and control (as far as I can make out). Hence the original comment made sense to me at least. I realise that for some WAB people it may seem a negative to be interesting to DBMers :-) but we're all friends here on TMP, right? rgds rob |

What is there about WAB that people like so much that they will go to other rules, other than WAB, to get that they can't get from WAB. I'm so confused. |

Hail Caesar is a great, big-game set of rules. I think if anything is actually going to replace WAB per se it will be Clash of Empires. |
Empgamer | 16 Apr 2011 2:49 a.m. PST |
Why will people go from WAB to other rules: army coverage I suspect. You know, niche stuff like Imperial Roman, Successors and Crusaders etc etc etc. |
